Reading, Mass. , May 8, 1931.
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works, was
called to order at 7:30 P .M.
All members and the Superintendent were present.
Minutes of May lst meeting .read and accepted.
27 Bids for Pumping Station were opened and names of
bidders and amounts of bids filed herewith.
Lowest Bid $6390.00- and highest $14,337.00- Average $9525.00
Bids were taken under advisement.
Hearing for Sewer Extension on Gardner Road held at next
regular meeting.
Application for corner curbing at Hillcrest Rd. and
Prescott St. received from Henry C. Parker. Board to investigate.
' Conference with School Committee Men, Spencer, Carnes and
Coolige and Harold Davis, regarding drainage conditions of
Junior High. School Playground, resulted that Woburn and Prescott
Streets' Culverts should be lowered approximately five ( 5) feet,
making it necessary to pipe ditch between these culverts and
south of Prescott Street about 1000 feet: Estimated Cost of
$7500.00. Mr. Davis reported 25,000 yds . of filling would be
required at an approximate cost of $25,000.00. Superintendent
instructed to obtain cost figures and report at next meeting.
Petition for granolithic sidewalk under betterment act
received and accepted from P. K. Richardson and W. H. Wilson
.Nos. 165 and 167 Woburn St. , L. C. Richt 22 Berkeley St. ,
C. H. Heselton and C. T. Victor 11 and 15 Berkeley St, ;
C. A. Holcomb and A. F. Drury, 6 and 8 John St. ; Lucy A.
Danforth 33 Woburn St. q F. 0. Eagleston, K. V. Dissell,
F. V. Waugh, E. T. Prescott, and B. L. Haines , 4, 16, 20,
22, 26, and 28 Thorndike Street.

F. Merton Gill, 32 Pillage St. , requested removing sewer ,
assessment. Board did not grant.
Voted to install approximately 75 feet of 24" pipe off
Howard St. , as per a written request from Fred F. Smith.
Letter received from E. A. Porter, 54 South St. , requesting
Board to write Woburn authorities to repair South St. Superintendent
instructed to do so.
Board voted to assess abutters 1/2 cost of legal fees,
etc. , and surveying on construction installed under Betterment
Act.
Application for curbing Lot #10 Virginia Road received
and accepted. Request for four corner curves laid on table.
Chairman to interview Mr. Richardson. '
Advisability of placing corner curb on Vine Street opposite
entrance to Hunt St. laid on table for investigation.
Meeting adjourned at 9:35 P.M.
