Reading, Mass. , May 1, 1931.
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called
to order at 7:30 P.M.
All members and the Superintendent were present.
Previous Minutes of April 24th meeting read and accepted.
Messrs. Shay and Robinson of the American Legion requested
use of Ball Park Firday afternoons and evenings . Referred to
Coach Fitzgerald of School Dept. by Mr. .Dickie. Supt. to
notify Mr. Robinson.
Fred Farnum of Golf Club requested proper materials to lay
dust in driveway and parking area. Board voted to aid Golf Club
in this work, because of their cooperation on new water project.
Superintendent to investigate their requirements.
Sampson & Weston filed with Board a list of Bids received
by them for the engine equipment. Mr. Sampson stated he would ,
study same and make recommendations at next meeting..
Mr. Dickie of the School Department interviewed the Board
regarding the drainage of playground area in rear of Junior High
School, stating culvert across Woburn and Prescott Streets should
be lowered, etc. Chairman read letter to Board addressed to
School Committee from Prof. Herman, regarding subject. Superintendent
instructed to write Mr. Dickie and Harold Davis to attend our
next meeting.
M. E. Brands and Fred Smith requested Board to sign copy of
Plan of Brands Court and Smith Avenue layout, to file with
Registry of Deeds.

Quotations received from Barrett Co. and Barber Asphalt Co.
for Road Oils, copies of same filed herewith. The Board instructed
the Superintendent to buy these products according to his require-
ments from these two bidders.
Board signed plan for Malden & Melrose Gas Light Co. , showing
proposed location for gas mains in Pinevale Avenue and Forest
Glen Road.
Messrs. Charles, Hall, Higgins, Howard, Wallace and Sias
appeared in favor of the proposed underground system of street
lighting, etc., of the Municipal Light Board, held at 8:30 P.M.
As a result of the Joint meeting with the Board of Public
Welfare, the Superintendent instructed to use the men they send
to us to start the work necessary to drain Birch Meadow. Board
of rublic Welfare to pay the salaries of these workers in
commodities , without any expense to our Department.
Vote of thanks received from American Legion, because of
Board's cooperation with them on Sidewalk construction abutting
their headquarters.
Board voted to hire a truck for the next five or six weeks,
cost not to exceed $35.00 per week. To purchase 200 shrubs,
duplicating those purchased last fall, for ball park, cost not
to exceed $100. To install a sand box in a suitable location
at Ball Park. To investigate the placing of a back stop for
base ball diamond.

Signed order for sidewalk Assessment for Emily J. Hunt,
corner of Hill Crest Road and Ellis Avenue; for Mineral Street,
Lots 3 A - 3 and 8; and an order for Curbing Assessment on
Dudley Street, Lots 3 - 28 - 29 - 30 and 31.
Meeting adjourned at 10:05 P .M.

auto truck pressure distributor, on the streets of
Reading, as directed, $0.1125 (eleven and one-quarter
cents) per gallon.
Tarvia K. P, delivered by auto truck and pumped
into your containers at Reading, $0.1375 (thirteen and
three-quarter-cents) per gallon.
We guarantee these materials to meet the specification
of the Massachusetts Department of Public Works and we further
agree to give the Town of Reading the very best of service in
the way of deliveries.

our Auto truck distributors on any Street in the
Town of Reading7 Mass. , as required, Eleven & One-
Half cents ( .11 ) per gallon
TERMS: Net 30 Days. From date of Invoice.
The above quotations are made with the understanding
that the Barber Asphalt Company shall not be liable for failure
or delay in shipments or delivery arising from strikes , labot
disturbances , fire, earthquake, action of the elements war,
insurrection pestilence, interference by civil or miliary
authorities , delays in transportation ,or any other causes beyond
its control or affecting its source of supply.
