HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-04-15 Board of Public Works Minutes -1- Reading, Mass. , April 15, 1931. Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works called to order at 8 P.M. All Members and the Superintendent were present. Mr. Arthur Gordon was informed that sidewalk front of his Main Street property would not be lowered more than 4 5/8 inches at the point which is center of doorways and that construction work would start soon. Board signed an Order of Taking Easement, through Meadow Brook Golf Club and Silas H. Carroll Properties for Water Main, etc. , as per Motion and Vote attached hereto. This order to be recorded immediately. Board also signed Notice, Plan and Order of Taking, covering easement of the property of the Meadow Brook Golf Club and Silas H. Carroll. Superintendent instructed to notify Chief Ordway that Pumping Station and Wells would be installed in Forest Reservation shortly. Master Seven Cement Mixer was purchased by Board of Fred F. Smith for $872.20 net delivered in Reading as a result of the bids received April 13th. Copies of these bids filed herewith. It was voted to install at cost sidewalks and driveway at Police Station property. Bid race. from Dyar Sales Co. for cement mixer. Copy attached herewith $925.00 L -2- April 15, 1931 Cont. Application for curbing abutting James Carleton property , 179 Summer Avenue was favorably acted upon. As a result of the protest of the remaining granolithic sidewalk petitioners on Deering St. a hearing is to be held April 24th. There was a general discussionuponthe manner in which the Birch Meadow appropriation should be expended. Matter was laid on the table until after a general meeting with the Planning Board and Special Committee was held. Adjourned at 9:45 P.M. A True Record:- Attest:- Frank M. Merrill SECRETARY MEMORANDUM OF VOTE TO BE PASSED BY BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED: That this Board adopt an order of taking for an easement in, through, and over the property of The Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation of Reading, Massachusetts , and Silas Henry Carroll, to the extent and for the purposes, as designated and defined in such order of taking, which order is incorporated herein and made part of this vote, and that the sum of One dollar be awarded as damages to The Meadow Brook Golf Club Corporation of Reading, Massachusetts for such taking, and the sum of Ten dollars be awarded to Silas Henry Carroll, and it is further voted that this Board cause such order to be recorded in the LMiddlesex South District Registry of Deeds and notify the owners of such taking as provided by law.
