Reading, Mass . , April 3, 1931.
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was
called to order at 7:30 P.M. All Members and the Supt. present.
Minutes of March 27th and 30th meetings read and accepted.
Mr. Hartshorn rendered a report of progress with the Golf
Club Officials, relative to right of way through their property.
Also stated 1100 sq. ft. of land, owned by Mr. Carroll, could
be purchased for $10.00
Mr. Crimp, Police Station Architect, interviewed the Board
relative to construction of walks, driveways , etc. Matter taken
under consideration.
Bids received for Conant Sand Loader from Fred Smith $995.00
F.O.B. Reading, and Conant Machine Steel Co. $985.00 F.O. B.
' West Concord, Mass . Board voted to buy loader from Fred Smith
if his bid covered our requirements .
Letter received from Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Co.
regarding changing the paint specifications from regular black
paint to aluminum for stand pipe. Will inform Board shortly as
to cost.
Board voted to lay 6" water pipe in Pinevale Ave. at
request of Lillie E. Lindquist, who would assume, if necessary,
4% guarantee charge.
Mr. Howard of Van Norden Road, requested Board to fill
in water pipe trench, caused by settling during winter. Stated
eight or ten loads of gravel should complete work. He was
L informed of Betterment Act and is to meet the Board April 17th,
to learn cost, etc.

Superintendent instructed to obtain bids for approximately
two car-loads of cement from local dealers ; to be supplied as
needed.
Board considered the year's requirement of road oils and
instructed the Superintendent to obtain prices, etc. on a
cement mixer.
Walter Anderson's request for a sewer on Summer Ave. ,
etc. , laid on the table.
Roy Lally petitioned for a sewer on 11 Gardner Rd. and
petition was referred back to him, requesting he obtain, if
possible, additional users.
Mr. Davis reported Arthur Gordon' s request for ,sidewalk
grade line. That he was progressing rapidly on the title of
property needed for new water project. That he would discharge
lien on P.M. Burgess property on Dudley St. caused by his
withdrawing his petition for granolithic sidewalk and that he
would draw up easement, covering water pipe line through Golf
Club property.
Meeting adjourned at 9:35 P .M.
