HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-02-14 ad Hoc - Bicentennial Commission Minutes February 14, 1914. The Reading Bicentennial Commission met on February 14 at 8 pm. a the Library. Six members were present. Dr. Macauley was unexpectedly tained. The minutes of the previ¢uAmooting wore accepted as read. Mrs. Miller reported that the two grant applications had been sent with a covering letter, and had bean ackn4dged. No formal resignation had been received from Linda Hamel but Mrs. Ebeling is putting out "feelers" for a successor. Mrs. Miller said she would check with the Selectmen' s office whether they had heard from her. Mrs. Ann Robinson was reported interested in doing sketches and art work for the 3evolutioaary House brochure for the Heritage Trail. She is with the Art Association. The chairman described her meeting with the Finance Committee regarding article 2$ of the warrant for annual town meeting. The Committee expressed considerable interest, the discussion esntering not on "should we back it" but rather how should we handle itj1and the positive way to present it to town meoting. 'The decision was for the Commission chairman to make a report of progress under article 2, and then to move indefinite postponement of article 2$, for the grant awards will not be announced until sometime after town meeting. Since a special town meeting is fore- cast for May a request for project funds can be made at that time. ��vl., The League of Women Voters, Mrs. Seavey, are planning to go forward �lJth,,new edition of Victor Pitkin' s Story of 3eadine Government. . The Finance Committee has requested from the Antiquarian Society full details of available assets including any fund restrictions, if the Parker Tavern restoration completion is included in the Commission request for municipal support of Bicentennial activities. Mrs. Ebeling reported that the marker project is progressing. A prototype marker will be produced and then home owners permissions can be sought. Completion of copy for the brochure is in process. Thursday, April 4 was set for another open meeting with liaison people and interested citizens, before organizations suspend meetings for the summer. Dr. Blanchard will send out the notices.
