HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-03-13 Board of Public Works Minutes -1- Reading, Mass . , March 13, 1931 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was called to order at 7:30 P .M. All members and Mr. Wm. J. Lumbert *dere present. Minutes of March 6th meeting read and approved. Mr. Martin B. Hartshorn was elected Chairman by unanimous vote. Mr. Frank M. Merrill elected Secretary, receiving three votes. Letters from Wendell Bancroft Co. and Percy N. Sweetser were read regarding bids on coal for Pumping Station. After much dismission bid was awarded to Wendell Bancroft Co. Letter received from Max Pinease, lF6 Salem St. , relative to drainage condition near his property. Superintendent to investigate. - Harold W. Maybury and Mr. F„ G. Dahlouist from Libby Ave. interviewed the Board regarding conditions at Libby Ave, re,,uest- ing that something be done to remedy same. They were informed as to Betterment Act. Superintendent instructed to estimate cost, including survey. Mr. and Mrs . Dailey of Bay State 3d. interviewed the Board relative to drainage conditions on Pratt St. , claiming brook has been filled in, causing surface water to back up into cellar. Superintendent to investigate and consult Town Counsel. Chairman Tirrell of Cemetery Trustees interviewed Board e regarding work as outlined in letter to board dated March 10th, requesting same be finished before May 30th, Mr. Hartshorn stated Board would do everything possible to cc-operate if weather conditions warranted . -2- March 13th, 1931, Cont. Requested Superintendent to check up what was required. ' Voted to allow Reading Riding Club to stage a one ring horse show at Ball Park some time in May. Mr. F. Cail of Summer Ave. states 1 1/4 inch water pipe on Woodbine St. causes rust in boilers, etc. To be investigated. Superintendent reports drainage projects on Temple St. will cost ; 800.00 for 400 feet. That Spring job will cost .° 600.00 for 300 feet. That A. Zanni broke fence Dost at 10 Union St. , plowing sidewalk. Superintendent instructed to communicate with standpipe contractor relative to cost of applying aluminum paint instead of black as specified in contract.
