The members of the aeading (31centenniAl Commission met in
he Children's Roan of the Public Library on September 25, 1973.
The secretary's report of the rieeting on eptember 13th with
the liaison representatives of local organizations, and interested
Citizens, was read and approved,

and disbursements then me through the town treasurer. 2E a separate non—
profit corporation can be organized which could then accept donations and
gifts for bicentennial activities. The members felt that a separate
organization would not be the most desirable. It wav pointed out that
although the town could not accept donations for the purpose, any group
could agree to pay tl'e expense of any project , or portion of same, and
pay such bills directly.
'ihe por.sible availability, of state and/or federal matching
funds was considered. ',,To more than 1.4000 would be provided for any one
project, and no more than 50¢ on n dollarmatchlry; basis, both probably
less than the maximums. Projects,however,can be submitted, provided they
are approved officially by this comnlnsion, and if not funded the first
time funds become available they would remain on tt�e list for future possible

to be marked, old road no-:es, cemetery) for cart of .arkers, permtsrlons,

suggestions of marker subjects and baek7round Information.
This will logically develop into the Heritage Trail project ,
with a brochure or guide for the same.
Individual volunteers are starting to come forward. =:etty

the 9th grade would like to undertake a pro.JeOne one on the

The Commission should seek continuing publicity from now

-ethods of financin* and methods of handling projects should
be worked out.
It was considered f alible that an asou^.t for completing the
vital repairs to the Parker ' nvern should be included In the Town appro-
priation budget to be sought at the next annual meeting, -arch 1974,
A brief discus:ion was held on the precept state o£ the work, and the
procuring of competent workmen to go forward with the job.
It was determined to make application for recognition by the
ARRC as a BicentenYtidl Community. Ibis would entitle 'reading, to use the
national bicentennial symbol in Its local comaenoration activities,
Sohn :felly at the High School wishes to be kept in touch with
plane, Linda Hamel will talk with him. .-r, CHugh will confer with
r. Dunbar, and with ::r. Xelly and r,re. Lbexiing.
Suggestions for specific individual projects and lists include
Indexing, inventories, Reading authors, hist-:>ry of C<.emorial Park, local
bibliography, and items of this nature.
Commission iembara are to receive a copy of the member list ,
the list of liaison representatives, and copies of the minutes of
4 neettngs in advance of the next scheduled meeting.
A second general meeting is planned for early November, and
the Jommission will ceet In the usual p3.ace at C p,m, on 'Tuesday, Ootober
23rd.
