November 21, 1930,
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at ,
7:30 P.M.
Messrs . Hartshorn, Merrill, Putnam, Fairclough and the
Superintendent were present.
Previous records read and approved.
Ben Cahoon, '94 Oak Street, complains of street water running
upon his land: to be remedied.
Board passed order for rebuilding sidewalk on southerly side of
Dudley Street, see order attached.
Miss Nichols offered her land at Birch Meadow to Town at assessed
value plus cost of transfer.
A letter from Reading Planning Board, calling attention to
conditions at corner of South Main Street and Summer Avenue.
Superintendent to acknowledge letter. '
Trouble at corner of Deering Street & Harriman Avenue, with
drainage to be investigated and remedied, 18" pipe thru land of
Robinson necessary.
G. P . DeMita, Tailor, at #3 Pleasant Street, requests permit for
a sign 12" high and 32" wide, granted. Building Inspector to examine
it after erection.
Voted to spend 4350.00 to erect a steel wire fence on the John St.
dump.
Drain on Salem Street stopped. Sign on East side of Main on
Haven Street sticks out into street. Hydrants are being reset where
necessary.
Standpipe to be filled tomorrow will take one week.
Secretary signed permit for seven (7) poles on Pennsylvania Ave.
between Summer Avenue and Virginia Road; four (4) poles on Virginia
Road from Indiana Avenue easterly; four (4) poles on California Road

1 from Pennsylvania Avenue to Indiana Avenue; five ( 5) poles on Indiana
Avenue from a point approximately twenty (20) feet north of California
Road southerly.
Board cannot abate excessive cost of laying pipe to Parker Tavern,
due to length of pipe, 135 feet.
Mr . Willard et al. appeared asking relief of surface water from
Bay State Road onto Pratt Place.
Board signed reloc8tion plan on the easterly side of Highland
Street and Bancroft Avenue in front of property of Helen G. Davis ,
Harold W. Putnam and Fred E. Richards, and also voted to make said
relocation.
Mr. Merrill raised question of extension of Hancock Street southerly
' to King Street, to give better access to Junior High School.
A bad condition exists on Mineral Street Bridge at the South
West corner.
Temporary patches should be put in holes in sidewalk, in Square.
