HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-10-31 Board of Public Works Minutes . -1- October 31, 1930 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at 7:30 P .M. Messrs. Hartshorn, Merrill, Fairclough and the Superintendent were present. Previous records read and approved. A claim for damages received from Mrs. J. G. Wallace as a result of breaking of grand stand at Ball Field. Mr. Davis requests that the Superintendent investigate and report. Superintendent reported on possibility of carrying Bonds. Mr. Symonds appeared relative to cost of preparing sketches to be presented to Town Meeting for appropriation, to cost $600.00 Board voted unanimously to employ Weston and Sampson to draw designs for Town Meeting inspection at a cost of $500.00 The Secretary signed a joint petition of the New England Telephone And Telegraph Co. and Reading Municipal Light Department for four (4) poles on North Main Street, northerly from Mill Strut, approximately 331. 5 feet also a joint petition for one (1) pole on North Main Street northerly from Mill Street, approximately 620 feet. Bids were opened for a light truck for the Highway Department as follows :- Ford 3 825.00 Chevrolet 772.90 Barry Motor Sales 1356.00 Board voted unanimously to purchase a Chevrolet at $772.90 net. Mr. Davis reported Board may finish Shackford Road (or any other street) under the Betterment Act after holding a hearing and giving an estimate of cost to abuttors. -2- October 31, 1930 Cont. Mr. Davis wrote a report on Lake Quannapowitt. , Board signed sewer commitment for Dudley Street $396. 53, High Street 13515.45, Mt. Vernon St. $828.91 and School St. $920. 52: Total ,; 2661.41 Board signed plan for easement for Storm Water Drain from Hancock Street to Willow Street through land of Frederick W. Call, James B. Cail at al. , Thomas J. Kirk et al. and Roderick M. Hogan et al. Voted to construct a granolithic sidewalk under the Betterment Act on the westerly side of Deering Street from Middlesex Avenue to Dudley Street, as requested by a petition signed by all the abuttors . Voted to roll Ball Park and to notify Elias B. Currell to remove grand stand from Ball Park. Superintendent to obtain ' cost of bleachers. Lanni not yet able to finish work on Memorial Park.
