HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-08-22 Board of Public Works Minutes August 22, 1930.
The regular meeting of the B. OF P. W. was held at 7:30 P.M.
Messrs. Hartshorn, Putnam and Merrill were present.
Mr. Eames of the Fire Dept. was granted permission of place '
a duct, inside of curbing, in front of the Goldberg property,
under the new cement sidewalk when same is constructed.
A public hearing relative to changing the name of Forest St. ,
from Main St, to Pearl St. , to Forest Glen Road, was held at 8 P.M.
Mr. Pierpont, Supt. of the Cemetery and Harold F. Davis were in
favor. Our town Counsel now rules that the Board has the authority
to grant this request, provided the Board signs a proper vote
covering same.
-The second Bumping test, required because of Metcalf and Eddy
failure to notify the State Bd. of Health of the first test, was
completed Tuesday morning. No report filed as yet, as to their
findings.
Mr. Samuel H. Davis was requested to obtain Mrs. Anna Goldberg's
signature, releasing the land in front of the building on Main St.
necessary to complete new sidewalk construction, before actual work
was started. Mr. Hartshorn plans to interview Friend Bros . for the
same reason.
A complaint was received from Frank J. Torre relative to
failure of proper notification of shutting off water supply. A
serious condition in his case because of a water cooled compressor
used in connection with manufacturing.
The advertised bids for pipe for drainage construction were
opened at 8 P.M. The only response was from Wendell Bancroft Co. '
Action on this matter was postponed until return of Supt. Lumbert,
so as to determine whether ordinary of re-enforeced pipes were
necessary.
Many complaints were reported relative to the cloudy condition
of our water. General opinion that the new lime was not up to the
standard of the supply formerly used and that this condition might
be the source of all our trouble. Voted to have both lime and alum
analized, and to obtain a small quantity of each material from
former source to ascertain any change.
Voted to discontinue sending samples of water from our
pumping station to Metcalf & Eddy.
Mr. Hartshorn informed the Board that the Salem St. road
construction was completed at less than 2/3 the estimated cost,
and complimented Mr. Birnie upon his accomnlishment. The balance
of this money approx. $3000.00 will be used to extend this
construction to running St. if possible to do so.
A detailed report was filed, with favorable coment' covering
work accomplished this past week by the Highway, Water and Park
Depts. It was voted to continue this practice and a copy of same
is attached hereto.
A petition was signed, granting the transfer of location of -
existing poles on Minot St.
Meeting was adjourned at 9 P.M.
