May 9, 1930
Regular Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at
7:30 P.M.
Report of previous meeting read and approved.
The water system was discussed and it was voted to order .a
special meter for river water used and also to dig a filter trench
from river to filter galleries .
The Board considered readjustment of charges and voted to
stop 4% guarantee charge, previously made to Mr. Torkington of
Martin Road.
A letter was received from Mr. Edgar Frost, calling attention
to condition of ditch guard fence and ditch at #35 Oak Street.
The Superintendent is to attend to the matter.
A letter from Mr. B. W. Whitney asked that the ditch near
Summer Ave. be cleaned, which also will be attended to if necessary.
A letter from Mr. Martin re damage to his home at Kingston
Street was referred to the Law Committee.
Ahearing on the removal of the Band Stand from the Common was
held at 8 P.M. and Mr. Millard F. Charles appeared and objected.
Hearings were also held on the approval of the layout of
portions of Winthrop Avenue and Hartshorn St. No one opposed and
the Board of Survey approved the plans .
It was voted to clear Memorial Park of. debris and to plow
where necessary.
The Board voted to engage Mr. Richmond as foreman of the
Water Dept. at a salary of $45.00 per week.
' Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Gordon appeared objecting to have a
granolithic sidewalk laid on their property in front of their store
in the square. The Chairman is to notify them of the Board's
decision on the matter.

Mr. Randall, landscape gardner, appeared with a plan of ,
suggested planting for the Common, to be considered later.
The Board voted to straighten and surface Pearl St. from
'the Cemetery to Charles St.
The giving out of information by employees of the Pumping
Station was brought to the Board's attention by Mr. Merrill, who
suggested that this condition should be stopped immediately.
It was voted, at the request of the Chairman, to meet next
Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 P.M. instead of the regular Friday
Meeting, the office, however, is to be open Friday night as usual.
The Board adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
