April 25, 1930
The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Public Works '
was held this day at 7:30 P .M.
All four members and the Superintendent were present.
Mr. Merrill reported on the School Street Sewer: 16 houses
are available for connection and the Superintendent was instructed
to engage an Engineer to take charge and to do the work with local
labor.
The curbing at #32 Village Street is to be laid.
The Superintendent reported that the culvert on South Street
can be lowered 6 inches, the work to be done later at a less busy time.
Gravel is to be put on the sidewalk on Grove Street where
necessary.
A hearing was held at 8 F .M. on petition for sewer in
Pleasant Street. Mr. W. Homer Morrison, Mrs . Van Horn and Mr.
Clark appeared in favor; no opposition. The Chairman promised
favorable action if money is available.
A hearing was held for petition for sewer in Bancroft Ave. by
Morris Levine. Mr. Morriss Levine, Mr. Millard F. Charles and Son,
appeared in favor; no opposition. Action promised if funds are
available.
A hearing was held also for petition for sewer in John Street.
Mr. Browne and another appeared in favor; with no opposition. Action
promised if funds are available.
Mr. Davis, our Town Counsel reported on condition of the title
to the grave]. pit. The First National Bank demands that the whole
$500. 0 be paid to it to satisfy payments overdue. Mr. Edward N.
Hugo is the Second Mortgagee and a release should be obtained from
him.

' Mr. Davis advised that the Band Stand may legally be removed
from the Common, but on account of Public Sentiment he thought it
advisable to hold a public hearing. A notice is to be published in
the Chroncile May 2nd, 1930 for a hearing on Friday May 9, 1930
at 8 P .M.
On the Birch Meadow Project, Mr. Davis advised that he had
written to Mrs . Emerson with regard to purchase of her property.
Mr. Weston is to give his property to the Town.
Two. complete reports on the water investigation were received
from Metcalf and Eddy, the engineers. They advised that a pumping
test be conducted this summer, during the dry season, of two weeks
duration, with continuous pumping during the entire 24 hours of
' each day. This can be done by our own Water Department.
It was voted to purchase a motor lawn mower with sulky from
Francis Bros. for $315.00.
The Board of Survey approved the plan for the laying out of
Cedar Street from Hopkins Street.
After hearing representatives from the Auto Car, General
Motors , Mack Sterling and White Trucks , the Board voted unanimously
to purchase an Auto Car Truck for .-54500.00 as per specifications
furnished with bids .
The Board adjourned at 11 P.M.
