The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Public Works was
held this day at 7:30 P.M.
Present were: Mr. Davis, Mr. Hartshorn, Mr. Merrill, Mr.
Fairclough and the Superintendent.
Mr. Davis tendered his written resignation as Chairman of the
Board.
Mr. Hartshorn expressed the Board's regrets and moved that
Mr. Davis ' resignation be accepted. Mr. Merrill seconded the
motion, which was carried and the resignation accepted.
Mr. Davis moved that Mr. Hartshorn be elected Chairman, which
motion was seconded by Mr. Merrill and voted on favorably by Mr.
Davis , Mr. Merrill and Mr. Hartshorn.
Mr. Fairclough did not vote on this motion.
' The plan of Palmer Hill Avenue property of Michael Zynsky
was accepted by the Board of Survey.
A letter from Metcalf & Eddy, reporting that the last well
driven showed 40 gallons per minute of the same excellent water.
A petition from residents on Van Norden Road asked that
gravel be dumped on the Road so as to make it passable. The Board
could not grant the request because it is a private street, no
acceptance having been made by the Board of Survey.
The Superintendent reported on Mr. Strout's plans for water
supply during the coming summer. It was estimated roughly that
about $40,000. would be necessary to prepare the new water supply
for delivery to the system. The Superintendent exhibited a section
' which he had cut from the 12" main in North Main Street between the
pumping station and the water tower, showing it to be in the best
possible condition.

A letter received from Mr. Martin on Kingston St. relative to 1
damages to his house alleged to have been caused by blasting in
drain construction referred to the Law Committee.
A letter was read from Mrs. Dorothy Stevens with reference to
sewer in School St. It was reported that 38 applicants signed the
petition, 8 persons notified the Board that they would connect and
1 paid deposit.
A letter was received from the Lukens Steel Co. in confirmation
of previous conversation.
The Secretary signed a permit for the N.E.T. & T. Co. and the
Municipal Light Dept. to erect 23 poles and remove 9 N.E.T. & T. Co.
poles in Prospect St. from Woburn to Woodbine St.
Mr. E. B. Currell and Mr. M. F. Charles appeared before the
Board relative to damage in Main St. The Board will do all '
possible to relieve conditions now existing.
No one appeared on hearing on extension of sewer in Bancroft
Ave. to house of Morris Levine.
Plan showing proposed location of 6" gas main in Hartshorn St.
from Lowell St. to Winthrop Ave. approved by Board.
The question of increases in salaries was considered, and
granted as recommended by the Superintendent with one exception.
Sewer assessments on Elliott St. were discussed.
Voucher to be prepared for Mr. Iverson in payment for gravel
pit on Grove St. action postponed for one week.
Equipment for playground adjoining baseball field considered.
Expenses to be apportioned with regard to all parks. ,
Fred E. Smith, Francis Bros. , & Mr. Eaton to be given an
opportunity to bid on cost of motor lawn mower.

' The Fire Chief is to be consulted with regard to an additional
hydrant on Vine St. between High St. and the bend in Vine St.
Mr. Hartshorn and the Supt. are to meet Mr. Ellenwood and
Boston & Maine R.R. officials at Station at 9 A.M. Saturday,
April 12, with regard to the resurfacing of way at the foot of
Haven St. adjacent to High St.
No action was taken on the truck question.
The Board adjourned at 9:45 P .M.
