HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-03-21 Board of Public Works Minutes March 21, 1930 A meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at 7:30 P.M. Mr. Hartshorn, Mr. Putnam, Mr. Merrill, Mr. Fairclough and the Superintendent were present. Mr. Davis, the Chairman, was ill so Mr. Hartshorn was elected Chairman pro tempor. It was reported that 3 more wells had been driven and that the last one was showing excellent results . Tests showed 35. gallons per minute. The wire fence for the dump was discussed, but no action taken. The Superintendent recommended laying the drain in Bond St. The situation regarding the culvert, etc. , was discussed and it was decided that the releases should be obtained before work was begun. ' Question was raised with regardto the title of the Bear Hill property. Work there also must wait until the Town owns the land. The Superintendent reported that he had put in the 12" connection to the 6" main in Main St. . The Board of Health asked that a special rate be granted to the Laundry on Haven St. This, however, could not be granted because the rate is fixed by law. It was the opinion of the Board that some change in the law should be sought to reduce the cost. A water pipe was asked for in Lawrence Road. Motor Oil was discussed again and it was decided to use Quaker State 011, which was quoted at 810 per gallon. Mr. Stembridge had quoted 84C. He is to be given the business if he will sell at 81¢. The Board of Survey approved the plan of Barrows Road. Mr. Sanborn appeared at the hearing held at 6 P.M. and spoke in favor of its acceptance. The plan of the northerly end of Hanscomb Ave. was approved also. No one appeared. -2- The work on Birch Meadow was discussed and it was urged that the Board have the necessary work done so that the filling from the new State Highway might be received as soon as it is ready. Also that all that is necessary be dumped on the cut-off on Forest St. , also on Pearl St. , because it is excellent material for filling and because it can be purchased cheaper than our department can haul gravel. Mr. Levine wants his house on Bancroft Ave. connected with the sewer. He was given an application to fill out and file. Mr. Robert Hickman of Forest St. appeared before the Board relative to the condition of Lowell St. at Barrows Turnout. He said that a truck, which he drove for the First National Stores, was damaged to the extend of .$16.35 because of the condition of the road cause by the frost heaving the surface.
