HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-03-07 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , March 7, 1930. -1- A meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at 7:30 PM. Present were: Samuel H. Davis, Ch'mn. Martin B. Hartshorn, Harold W. Putnam, Frank M. Merrill, William T. Fairclough, and the Superintendent. The Board reoganized and Mr. Davis was nominated and re-elected chairman and Mr. Fairclough was nominated and elected Secretary. It is to be regretted that our former Secretary Mr. rutnam found himself unable to continue as such. Mr. L. A. Fletcher brought a petition before the Board regarding Longwood Road, claiming that Town should accept same without action of the Board of Survey. The Board of Survey plan was shown to Mr. Fletcher and a petition given to him to obtain the signatures of zwners and mortagagees on that part of street, which abutters wish accepted. Mr. Zynsky appeared regarding Longview Road and Palmer Hill Avenue acceptance. He is to notify the Board by letter when road is subgraded. An option was received from the Laconia National Bank, subject to a previous option, on property located on Bear Hill for location of proposed Standpipe. Cancellation of previous option to be obtained ' by March 10,1930. This land contains 182.800 Sq. Ft. , being lots 178 to 213 inclusive on plan 50-A filed at Town Office. A letter was received from Mrs . A.G. Barber, offering to sell about six Acres of land near or adjoining present location of the Pumping Station for $300.00. The Superintendent is to investigate location and report to the Board. p A report from Metcalf and Eddy, dated March 7, 1930, was received, notifying Board of conditions as to test wells. The Superintendent reported on his investigation of the condition of the property of W. L. Martin, No. 19 Kingston St. , where damages were claimed due to blasting in surface water drain recently built. In his opinion no damages were sustained thereby. See his report of even date. The question of motor oil was discussed and it was decided to ask Mr. Stembridge to appear before the Board on March 14, 1930. It was suggested that Mr. Marston appear before the Board on Friday next and report on progress made and on the purchase of water from the Town of Wilmington. Locations were granted on the petitions of the N.E.T.& T.Co. and the Municipal Light Dept. jointly for the erection of one (1) pole on Washington St. from High St. easterly and one (1) pole on West St. at Fremont St. March 7, 1930 -2- Work on the extension of the sewer in High, Mt. Vernon and , School Sts. was discussed and locations of sewer in sidewalk on High St. suggested. The nature of the sidewalk to be replaced was under discussion, whether it be of tar or granolithid.
