HomeMy WebLinkAbout1929-12-05 Board of Public Works Minutes Readfng, Mass. ' December 5, 1929 A meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at 7:30 P.M. Present were: Samuel H. Davis Miles C. Higgins Martin B. Hartshorn William T. Fairclough Harold W. Putnam and the Superintendent. A general discussion of the snow removal work as experienced in the recent storm was held and general satisfaction was expressed. A letter was received from Metcalf and Eddy enclosing a summary of bids received for driving wells in connection with the water investigation. A hearing by the Board of Survey was held on the layout of "A" Street and the plan was duly approved. Approval of the layout of Third Street was posponed after a question regarding the location of this street remained unanswered. The hearing however was held and the location is to be determined and final action will be taken later. A hearing was held upon a petition of the New England Tel.& Tel. Co. , to lay an underground conduit on Haverhill Street. No one appeared in opposition and the petition was granted. Various truck dealers appeared to explain the merits of trucks sold by them. A discussion followed andafter several ballots it was ' voted to purchase a Diamont T. Truck, the vote being three in favor and two in behalf of an Auto car truck. Mrs. Gordon appeared cefore the Board to again request payment of bills incurred because of accidents at the Salem Street playground. -2- It was explained to Mrs. Gordon that the bills could not be paid by the Boardaid suggested she refer them to the Board of Public Welfare.
