HomeMy WebLinkAbout1929-11-01 Board of Public Works Minutes ' Reading, Mass, November 1, 1929 A meeting of tkte Board of Public Works was held this day at 7;30 P.M. Present were; Samuel H. Davis Miles C. Higgins Martin B. Hartshorn William T. Fairclough Harold W. Putnam and the Superintendent, Mr. Gilmet presented a plan of Libby Avenue and "A" Street for approval by the Board of Survey. A plan of "A" Street is to be submitted later, the plan submitted not being satisfactory. Angus J. Bell, 57 Hanscom Avenue and others came before the ' Board to urge the acceptance of Hanscom Avenue to Hartshorn Street, They were advised the Board would look into the matter and communicate with them stating what work is necessary before acceptance can be recommended. A request was made by Dr. Richmond for a sewer in Longview Rd. W. I. Sweetser called to complain about sewerage flowing in the drain near Washington Street and asked that something be done to stop it. The Superintendent is to investigate the cause and report to the Board. A bill amounting to $11.00 for medical services by Dr. Halligan because of an injury at Memorial Park was referred to the Board of Public Welfare. Applications were received from the Malden & Melrose Gas Co. , ' to extend a 6" Main on Freemont Street from #10 to West Street and on Lowell Street from Grove Street to the B. M. R.R. Both permits were granted. A sketch was received from the Reading Motor Company showing _z_ the type of sign which they desire to erect in front of their property. The pe unit was granted. A sketch was received from Alex Richmond showing sign which he desires to erect in front of his property on North Main Street. Voted to grant the permit, subject to any restrictions of the State Highway Department. The question of providing skating this winter at Memorial Park was discussed and the Superintendent was instructed to report as to work necessary and the cost estimated. The Board voted to make a taking to provide for the Kingston Street drain, a copy of the motion duly made and seconded is. herewith attached. The Board then voted to adjourn until Thursday Nov. ,7th,instead of the regular meeting night, Nov. 8th. A true record. , (Signed) Harold W. Putnam Secretary
