HomeMy WebLinkAbout1929-09-20 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. ' September 20, 1929 Meeting of Board of Public Works Members present; Samuel H. Davis,Chairman Martin B. Hartshorn, Miles C. Higgins, and the Superintendent. It was voted to construct about 300 feet of tar sidewalk on the south side of Mineral Street between Sumer Avenue and Prospect Street. This was done to remedy a drainage situation complained of by Andrew Canty. The Board received a delegation from Kingston Street regarding the drainage condition in that neighborhood. After hearing the compl aint, it was voted to investigate the premises personally on Saturday morning, September 21, at 8;00 A.M. and meet the complosinants, and report to the Board at the next meeting. Mr. Ole Swenson of Haverhill Street met with the Board regard- ing the establishment of the side line of his property and as a result it was voted to petition the County Commissioners to establish the side lines on Haverhill Street. A hearing was held at 8;00 o' clock regarding the Elliot Street sewer. Messrs. Lang, Totten and Hutchinson appeared. It was learned that only one house would be connected and the Board voted hot to make the extension. Mr. Merrill met with the Board and discussed the drainage situation on Bond Street. ' It was voted to cooperate with the Sel ectmen in their attempt to better traffic conditions at the corner of Prescott Street and Summer Avenue, and the Superintendent was instructed to install two corner curbs -t- at this point. The Superintendent was instructed to bring in a report, at £ , the next meeting, of the drainage condition near the property o George W. Ives, at 158 Sumer Avenue. A communication was received from Winfield Reed of 3 School Street in regard to the drainage situation in that locality. The Superintendent was instructed to investigate the conditions and report at the next meeting. The plan submitted by the Malden and Melrose Gas Light Company for extension of the gas main on Elliot Street was approved. Permission to transfer to joint ownership with the Town of Reading, 21 poles on Grove Street and Lowell Street northerly, and to abandon 8 Poles now in use. Respectfully suomitted, (Signed) M. C.
