HomeMy WebLinkAbout1929-09-13 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. September 13,1929 , Meeting of Board of Public Works Members present: Samuel H. Davis., Chairman Martin B. Hartshorn Miles C. Higgins, and the Superintendent Approved theplan for gas main extension on Bond Street northerly from Vine Street. Mr. Harshall, representing the Malden and Melrose Gas Light Company appeared before the Board relative to the non approval of the plan for gas main estension on Elliot Street between Green and Bolton Streets. He was informed that the Board was very much displeased with , the action of the Gas Light Company in constructing the main before the plan was approved, which is entirely contary to previous action of their company. The main that has already been put in is constructed on the wrong side of the street, but further extension will be carried out on the opposite side. The New England Tel. & Tel. Co. , were given a permit to locate 8 poles on Lowell Street from Dustin Street northerly to the Boston & Maine Ratroad bridge. Mr. Ambrose of Lowell Street made a complaint regarding the contition of the roadway between the car-tracks on Lowell Street near Grove Street, also regarding the side of the bank adjacent to the new sidewalk constructed on Lowell Street last year, but these matters , were referred to the superintendent for investigation and report. Bids were opened for the construction ofgranolithic sidewalks and the contract was awarded to Domenick Zanni at the following prices: -2- $2.75 per aq. yd, for graiolithic walks 3.00 " " ' " driveways ' 10.00 " Cubic " " rock excavation. Permission was given the Municipal Light Board for the transfer of ownership of a ,joint location between the Municipal Light. Board and the New England Tel.& Tel. Co., of one pole on Salem Street, approximat- ely 70' easterly from Harden Street. The Board approved the re-location of one pole on King Street 12' 6" easterly of its present location on petition of the Municipal light Board. B. Lehan and George Lang met with the Board in regard to sewer construction on Elliot Street. They were informed that the. abuttors effected would be notified, of a public hearing to be held @n Friday, September 20 at 8 o'clock at which time all people interested would be heard. The Board acting as the Board of Survey approved the plan of the extension of Prospect Street from Summar Avenue to the End of the present accepted portion of Prospect Street. The Board also approved the plan for the laying out of Hunt Street, also the lot plans on Hunt Street. The Superintendent was instructed to attend a meeting of the County Commissioners on Saturday, September 14, and to ask for assist- ance on the re-construction of Salem Street, the total estimated to be $9000.00 1/3 of this amount to be appropriated both by the Connty Commissioners and the State. 1t was voted to have Davis and Abbott draw up plans for the laying out of Vale Road. Joseph Shipkin presented plans for the laying out of Third Street off South Street and he was informed that the hearing would be advertised promptly. -3- The Board has received notification from the Town'Counsel that we have no right, to maintain the drainage pipes across the property of Maggi on Copeland Avenue, and_itwas voted by the Board to inform Mr. Maggi that the pipes would be removed and other .means for the drainage of Copeland Avenue established within three years. It was voted to construct the drain on South Main Street south- erly from Haven Street at an approximate cost of $500.00, The Superintendent was instructed to prepare plans for taking of property on Woodard Avenue , for drainage extension on Woodward Avenue and Vale Road.
