HomeMy WebLinkAbout1929-04-12 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass, April 12,1929 Meeting of the Board of c"ublic Works was held this day at 7:30 P.M. Present were: Samuel H. Davis Miles C. Higgins Martin B. Hartshorn Wm. T. Fairclough Harold W. Putnam and the Superintendent. The condition of the two typewriters now used by the office help was called to the attention of the Board and it was voted to repair them at a cost of X635-.00 as submitted by the Lawrence Typewriter Co. Proposals for the construction of storm water drainage as advertised was opened at 8:00 P.M. There were sixteen bidders and the prices ranged from 13 to 18 thousand dollars. Mr. Russo the low bidder was interviewed and the matter taken under advisement. A request was received from the Reading Rubber Company that the Board have the driveway to the company' s buildings repaired under . its direction and with the use of the Town' s machinery. It was the opinion of .the Board that every lawfull assistance be given them and they will be so advised by the Chairman. A hearing was held on the applications of the N.W.Tel.& Tel.Co. to enlarge several manholes and to make a lateral extension on Union St. No one appeared at this hearing and the application was granted. Bids were received from two contractors for the laying of tar Iconcrete sidewalks and it was voted to grant the work to T. A. Mahoney, 13 Avon St. ,Stoneham, at prices submitted. A true copy.
