HomeMy WebLinkAbout1929-02-21 Board of Public Works Minutes 1 February 21, 1929 ' Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day in the Town Building at seven-thirty P.M. There were present: Harry N. Brown Miles C. Higgins Martin B. Hartshorn Samuel H. Davis, and the Superintendent. A letter was received from Mrs . Elliott R. Stafford, requesting an extension of the payment of the water bill due from Mr: Stafford and she was notified that the Board would extend the time for payment up to and including March 15, 1929, on or before which date they would expect the bill paid. Upon a hearing of the petitions of the New England Telephone Company and the Municipal Light Department for joint pole locations as set forth below, on one appeared in opposition thereto and such petitions ware granted. Ash Street, from a point approximately 81t southeasterly of Cross St., and running southeasterly - two (2) poles, Also to remove one (1) Town of Reading Pole, Pearl Street, from. Charles Street northerly - three (3) Poles, Also to remove two (2) Town of Reading Poles. Winter Street, from Salem Street northwesterly approximately 398' one (1) Pole. Also to remove one (1) Pole, Town of Reading, Summer Avenue, from Ding Street westerly approximately 1931 - one (1) Pole, ' Also to remove one (1) N.E.T.&.T. Pole, approximately 227f westerly from King Street, Haverhill Street, between Wakefield Street and Bay S#ate Road- Thirty-Six (36) Poles, -2- Linden Street, from between Woburn Street and Lowell Street - Six ' (6) Poles. Also to remove five (5) Town of Reading poles and two (2) N.E.T.& T. Poles. Kingston Street, from Mt. Vernon Street northerly approximately 1911 - one (1) Pole. Also to remove one (1) Town of Reading Pole. Upon hearing of the laying out of Howard Street Extension, no one appeared in opposition therto and several residents appeared in favor of such laying out and whereas after discussion it was determined and adjudged by this Board that common convenience and necessity required the laying out of a private way known as Howard Street Extension. Now therefore, it was upon motion duly made and seconded. VOTED: To lay out a Town way for use of the Town, substantidly in the location of the private way known as Howard Street Extension, as shown by plan and profile of Reward Street Extension, surveyed by Davis & Abbott, Civil Engineers, and dated February , 1929. The Board of Public Works of the Town of I:eadiug, having determined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity require that a town way be laid out as and in the location hereinafter described , having complied with all requirements of law relating to notice to the owners of land therefor and of a hearing thereon, and having met at, the time and place appointed for each hearing and then and there heard all persons present who desire to be heard , have laid out and do hereby lay out a town way for the no* of the town running westerly from West Street , substantially in the location of the private way known as Howard Street Extension. Town Way so laid out are as follows: HOWARt; 'THERT RYTRI(V ION, being an extension of the present ^own ',gay known as Howard Street, and running wssterly from the westerly side of L'iest Street to land of A.M.Morse heirs , and being bounded and described as follows: The NORTffidRLY line of said Extension commences at a point on the said westerly side lite of West 'street , siad point being h. 230- 32' - 00-r- a distance of 3.69 feet from an angle bound marking an angle in eaid westerly, side line of hest Street: From thence the said iiortherly line rune with a curve bearing in a southwesterly direction on a radius of 20.00 feet , i length of 20.33 feet to a point of tangent: ,hence S. 810- 461- 00" W. . a dist.,nee of 787.03 feet to a Drill Hole in the wall between lands of William E. & Edith M. deuee on the e_ist and A.M.Morse heirs on the west, and at the end of this layout. 'Phe COUTHERLT line of said Extension commencee at a pont on the westerly side line of said west street , said point being S. 24 -18'-OOW. , a diet rocs of 97.46 feet from the aforesaid stone bound , and at a point of curve: From thence the siad Southerly line runs with a curve to the LEFT on a radius of 20.00 feet, a length of 42. 77 feet, to a point of tangent: Thence S. 819- 461- 00"W. , par 1101 and Forty-five feet dist-int from the above described I1ortherly line , s distance of 731.81 feet to a Drill Hole in the wall between lands of Margaret R�:nd on the east and the said A.M.1orse Emirs on the west , and to the end of this layout. HOWARD STREET PJTENSION ( 2) For further identification of this description and location, reference is hereby made to a plan and profile of Howard Street Exten- sion, Reading, Miss. , surveyed by Pavis & Abbott , Civil Engineers , dated February 1929, And by reference mide a part of this report. We determine that no dam-.ges will be sustained by any person or persons in their property b7 reason of the tLiking to be mode for this improvement. No betterments are to be assessed for this improvement. This laying out so mode by us we hereby report to the Town for seoeptanee and order that the Sime be forthwith filed in the office of the Town Clerk.
