Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held February 15,1929
Members present: Harry N. Brown, Miles C. Higgins, Harold
Putnam, Martin B. Hartshorn, and the Superintendent.
Contract for coal for the Pumping Station for 300 Or. Tons
was awarded to P. N. Sweetser, for 06.99, delivered at. P. S. It was
stipulated that the coal is to be the same as delivered during the
past year and the. right is reserved to cancel the contract if the
quality is not up to the standard, The Supt. was instructed to notify
Mr. Sweetser of this decision.
Hearings were held on four (4) underground conduit locations
for the Telephone Co., to be located on Haven, High and West Sts. , with
no person appearing, and on No. Main St. ,from Salem St. ,to No. Reading
line with Mr. Taber, Mr. Parker, Mr. Robinson and Mr. Choate, the latter
appearing for Mrs. Little. No objections were offered.
On the street layouts, the following pearsons appeared:
For High St.,Layout, of which plans were approved:
Mr. & Mrs. Riley, with no objections.
For Lee Street layout:
Mr. Schoppelry, with no objections.
For Ridge Road Layout:
Mr. Leavitt, with no objections.
Mr. Scott, "
Mr. Eastman,
Mr. Safford,
For Pennsylvania & Indiana Avenues, and California & Virginia Rds.,
Mr. Richardson, with no objections, who stated that
the Reading Realty Trust had incorporated into all there deeds where
drains run, the following, "The grantors, for themselves, their succes-
sors and assigns reserve the right to enter upon that part of the

premises herein conveyed where the ditch or drain crosses said premises,
to clean or repair said ditch or drain whenever necessary,"which he ,
also stated that said rights will be assigned to the town. These lay-
outs were approved with the understanding that the streets will be in
proper shape for acceptance at the date of the Town meeting or the
articles will be withdrawn.
For Wanda Street Layout:
Mr. Hynes, with on objections. In relatinn to
Wanda St. ,it was decided that the Secretary should make up a form of
release for the drain taking to be signed by:

Ash St., from Main St._, southwesterly, four (4) poles

Laying out of High Street and Report to Town.
1. The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading, having
determined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity require
that a town way be laid out as and in the location hereinafter described,
having complied with all requirements of law relating to notice to the
owners of lana therefor and of a hearing thereon, and having met at the
time and place appointed for such hearing and then and there heard all
persons present who desire to be heard , have laid out and do hereby lav
out a Town Way for the use of the Town, High Street , from north of Mineral
Street to Lowell Street, the boundaries and measurements of said town way
as so laid out are as follows:
THE EXTENSION OF HIGH STREET. being an extension of a present
town way in Reading, Mase. , known as High Street.
The WESTERLY line of said extension commences at the northerly
terminus of High Street , as defined in Town Records, Vol. 5, page 113,
under date of Nov. 5, 1872.
From thence the said Westerly line of said extension runs
N. 15-00 W. , a distance of 867. 78 feet, by lands of Arthur H. Cook,
Edward F. & Phyllis H. Downs, Lester S. & Anna R. Riley, the end of
Woodward Ave. , by lands of Lillian M. Jonson, Mary E. Sias, Otis B. &
Hattie M. Ruggles, the and of Vine Street, by lands of Martin B. Hartshorn,

Thence with a curve to the LEFT with a radius of 1717. 34 feet ,
