HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-09-07 Board of Public Works Minutes September 7, 1928. Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at the Town ' Building at seven-thirty P.M. There were present:- Harry N. Brown Miles C. Higgins Martin B. Hartshorn Harold W. Putnam Sa:miel H. Davis, and the Superintendent. At eight o'clock the bids for the granolithic side-walks were opened .publicly. The contract was awarded to Simpson Brothers Corporation, who was the lowest bidder. The matter of rebuilding the Mineral Street bridge was discussed with the Town Counsel and he was instructed to prepare a petition to be filed with the County Commissioners in order to obtain the necessary permission for the reconstruction of the bridge. ' Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED: That it is the opinion of the Board that it is necessary for the security and convenience of the public that an alteration (not involving the abolition of a crossing at grade) should be made . in the Mineral Street Bridge over the Boston & Maine Railroad, and the approaches thereto, including the rebuilding of said bridge, because the said bridge by readon of the passage of time, deterioration, wear and tear and the great changes inthe character of the traffic passing over said bridge which have occurred since the same was built, has become unsafe and unsuitable for use.
