HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-06-22 Board of Public Works Minutes June 22, 1928. Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at the Town Building at seven-thirty P.M.were p ' eresent:- Harry N. Brown Miles C. Higgins Martin B. Hartshorn Harold W. Putnam Samuel H. Davis, and the Superintendent. The Board approved the plans of. the Melded & Melrose Gas Light Company for the extension of the gas mains in Howard Street Extension, Chapin Avenue and Ordway Terrace. Mr. Leon F. Quimby requested the Board to clean the dump on Salem Street, but was informed that as this was private property the Board could not grant this request. At the hearing of the joint petition of the New England Tel- ephone & Telegraph Company and the Municipal Light Department for , the re-location of pole on High Street at Washington Street, no one - appeared in opposition thereto and the Board granted the petition. Mr. Turner, of the Reading Wet Wash Laundry, discussed with the Board the matter of rendering water bills semi-annually instead of monthly and the Board voted to bill this Company semiannually as heretofore. A Permit was granted to Donald Patrick to hold a band concert the night before the Fourth. Whereas after discussion it was determined and adjudged by this Board that common convenience and necessity require the laying. out re-locating and altering of the public highway at the Northeast corner of Woburn and West Streets in Reading, and whereas, it is , the intention of this Board to so lay-out, relocate or alter said highway in accordance with the provisions of the Statutes relating thereto; Beginning at a stone bound on the Easterly side line of said -2- West Street, at the Southerly end of a curved line the Radius of which is 825.00 feet, as shown on a plan of said West Street as laid out by the County Commiss'_oners in the year 1896. From thence the area to be taken to re-locate said curve runs on a bearing of S. 130 - 29' - 00" E. , a distance of 30.47 feet to a stone bound marking a point of curve; Thence on a curve to the Left with a Radius .of 12.78 feet, a length of 22.85 feet, to a stone bound marking a point of tangent and situated on the Northerly side line of said Woburn Street: Thence N. 640 - 04' - 40" E. , a distance of 30.47 feet to a point of tangent on the said Northerly line of Woburn Street: Thence connecting with. the Stone Bound first mentioned by a curved line to the Right with a Radius of 37.27 feet, a length of 66.63 feet. Said last mentioned line runs across land of George L. Downing. The area to be taken in ' rounding or re-locating said corner is 430 square feet. Now, there- fore, it was upon motion duly made and seconded, VOTED: That the Chairman of this Board be and he hereby is authorized, empowered and instructed to give a written notice of the intention of this Board to lay-out, re-locate or alter said highway to George L. Downing, the owner of the land which may be taken for such purpose in accordance with the Statutes relating ther6to. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED: That the private way heretofore known as Weston Road, between Bancroft Avenue and Hanscom Avenue, be and the same hereby is, laid out as a public way, the boundaries and measurements of the way so laid being as follows to wit: WESTON ROAD, between Bancroft Ave. and Hanscom Ave. , it being a street or way situated in the Town of Reading and running Westerly from Bancroft Ave. , to a Town Way known as Hanscom Ave. The Southerly line of said -3- Weston Road, commences at a point twenty-eight hundredths of a foot Southerly from a drill hole in a stone bound, which marks a point of Reverse Curve in the Westerly sirleling of Bancroft Ave. , having a radius of 377.42 feet. From thence the said Southerly line runs on a course of S. 720 - 59' - 10" W. , a distance of 247.20 feet by land of Marcia L. Thorburn, Julia G. Noyes and Caroline M. + Childs, to the Easterly sideline of Hanscom Ave. , said point being at the end of this layout. The Northerly line of said Weston Road, if parallel with and forty (40) feet distant from the above described Southerly line, and starts from a stone bound on the Westerly sideline of' Bancroft Avenue, and runs by land of. R. W. Woodward Jr. , and James E. Marshall, a distance of 228.81 feet to the intersection of the Easterly sideline of Hanscom Ave. , said point being at the end of this layout. The above described lines are more fully shown on , a plan entitled, "Weston Road, Reading, Mass . , made by Davis & Abbott, Civil Engineers, Reading, Mass . ," said plan being a part of this description. The Board discussed the matter of the articles to be inserted in the Warrant for the special Town Meeting. A True Record:- Attest:- Samuel H. Davis SECRETARY.
