HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-05-11 Board of Public Works Minutes May 11, 1928. Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at the Town ' Building at seven-thirty P.M. There were present:- Harry N. Brown Miles C. Higgins Martin B. Hartshorn Harold W. Putnam Samuel H. Davis, and the Superintendent. Mr. Norman M. Paull discussed with the Board the matter of the contract for the construction of the storm water drains, giving the Board references and information as to other contracts handled by him. After considering the matter of awarding the contract for the construction of storm water drains, it was, upon motion duly made and seconded, Voted: To award the contract to Norman M. Paull and William ' Dawson, who submitted the lowest bid, - $9,998.40. Mr. E. J. Roundy and Mr. Hugh L. Eames appeared before the Board reauesting a permanent sidewalk in front of their respective premises on Village Street. They were advised that they should make a written application for the same, and the matter would then be considered. Mr. Charles A. Ambrose, representing Mary L. Boyce, owner of the property at S4 Haven Street, appeared before the Board with reference to bill for water used on these premises, and he was informed that the meter had been tested, and that the water charged for was being used on the premises and therefore, no abatement could be made. Property owners on Lewis Street came before the Board, making application for water and they were informed that the matter would be submitted to the Town Counsel for his advice, asto whether the Board could place a main in this street, under the terms of the Survey Act. Mr. Herbert Hunt requested the Board to construct the sewer in front of his factory on Pleasant Street, and he was informed that the Board would estimate the cost of installing the same and then notify him as to the action taken. Mr. L. C. Hough, representing the Pitometer Company, discussed with the Board the matter of making an examination and survey of our water system, and after considering the matter it was, upon motion duly made and seconded. ' Voted: To have the two investigations offered by this company made at this time, - one for a water waste survey of the distribution system of Reading and one for an engineering study of the distribution facilities for the purpose of properly designing replacements and extensions, at a total cost of $2200.00, the investigations to be made in accordance with the written proposals of the Pitometer Company dated March 30, 1928, and the Town to pay for the same, in accordance with the terms contained therein.
