Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at the Town
Building at seven-thirty.
There were present:-
Miles C. Higgins
Martin B. Hartshorn
Harold W. Putnam
Samuel H. Davis, and the
Superintendent.
In the absence of the Chairman, Mr. Miles C. Higgins was duly
elected Temporary Chairman for the meeting.
Mr. George L. Downing came before the Board with reference
to the proposed widening at the corner of West and Woburn Streets,
and he agreed to accept the assissed value for the land taken by
the Town.
Mr. J. W. Killam, Jr. discussed with the Board the condition
' of the highway at the corner of Arlington and Woburn Sts . , and it
was decided to have the Superintendent make a further inspection
of the highway at this location with Mr. Killam, to see if anything
could be accomplished to improve the same.
A letter was received from Fannie C. Nichols requesting the
Town to remove the bound stone from the corner of Van Norden Road
and Franklin Street, and to restore the stone wall to its original
condition before the bound stone was set, and she was advised that
the bound stone would be taken out at once and the wall would be
replaced.
A letter was received from Mrs. D. M. Hooton, 93 Salem Street,
asking compensation for land which she claimed the Town had taken
' to widen Salem Street, and also for land she claimed the Town had
taken in widening the culvert running through her property, and she
was notified that this Board would look into the matter and take the
same up with her later.
A letter was received from David Maurice Cook, representing ,
the Wilfred A. Bancroft Estate, submitting a claim for $150.00
for alleged damages to property on Longwoods Road, as a result of
laying the water main in this highway, and the whole matter was
referred to the Town Counsel for attention.
A claim was made. by William Kelch as a result of falling down
on West Street, immediately after the same was oiled, and this matter
was referred to the Town Counsel for attention.
The Superintendent also reported another accident at the
corner of Willow Street and Summer Avenue, in which an automobile
skidded on the highway, which recently had been oiled, and this
matter was referred to the Town Counsel.
