Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at the Town
Building at seven-thirty P .M.
There were present:-
Harry N. Brown
Miles C. Higgins
Martin B. Hart§horn
Harold W. Putnam
Samuel H. Davis, and the
Superintendent.
A letter was received from Mr. R. B. Montt of Ash Street,
making application for a curbing at the corner of Ash and Cross
Streets and also for an edge stone in front of his premises on
Ash Street, and after considering the matter, it was voted to place
the curbing on the corner of these streets and to advise Mt. Mount
that the estimated cost for the straight edge stone and labor setting
the same would be $2.00 a foot, one-half the cost to be paid by him.
' A letter was received from J. Warren Killam, Jr. with reference
to the condition of the highway at the intersection of Arlington and
Woburn Streets, and he was advised that this was caused by the
surface water running down Woburn Street, across Arlington Street
and could not be remedied until the present drainage system has been
extended, which will be accomplished as soon as funds are available.
The joint petition of the New England Tel. & Tel. Co. and
Municipal Light Department for relocation of pole on Oak Street
was granted.
A Committee from the Board of Trade discussed with the Board
the matter of improving business relations between this Board and
the merchants of the Town, and they were informed the..t this Board would
' be glad to co-operate with the merchants with reference to purchasing
supplies for the needs of the several departments.
A letter was written to George L. Downing, the owner of the '
property at the corner of Woburn and West Streets , inviting him
to appear before the Board on Friday evening, April 27th, at 8:00
P.M. with reference to the proposed taking at the junction of these
streets.
Evart E. Peterson and Benjamin Franklin, property owners on
Longwoods Road made a claim for damages resulting from the laying
of the water main in this street and they were notified that the
Board could not recognize any claim for damages because they had
already released the Town from all claims for damages and had
covenanted to hold the Town harmless from any claims by reason of
the laving of the water main in this street.
