HomeMy WebLinkAbout1927-03-25 Board of Public Works Minutes 1 March 25, 1927. Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held this day at the Town Building at seven-thirty P.M. ' There were present:- John W. Owen Miles C. Higgins Chester J. Wallace Harry .N. Brown Samuel H. Davis, and the Superintendent. A letter was received by the Board from Linda Besse offering to sell to the Town the sand pit located on her premises at 242 West Street for the sum of $3500.00, and an abatement of her real estate taxes amounting to approximately $300.00. The Board con- sidered the advisability of purchasing. the sand necessary for the Town for this year and instructed the Superintendent to get the prices of sand per load from Ernest A. tturd of Reading, and Henry A. Fiendel -of Wakefield and ascertain if they have the quality of ' sand required and the quantity to supply the Town for its needs this summer. Mr. Goff appeared before the Board with reference to the taking of land on Temple Street for the sewer to the new Junior High School and the Board made him an offer of $202.80 for an easement in this land for the sewer, which was not accepted by him, and the Board considered the advisability of taking the land of Robert E. Parker for this purpose. A petition was presented to the Board by the Municipal Light Department for the privilege of erecting three poles on Harrison Street. There being no opposition, it was voted to grant said petition. , A letter was received from Charles P. Howard by the Board March 25, 1927 -2- to make a change in the sidewalk on Main Street, in front of the store occupied by the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, so that he can put in a drain at his expense to run surface water into the street, and also for permission to open a driveway on Haven Street between the rear of the Manning Building and the double house. The Superintendent was instructed to look into this matter and to report the facts at the next meeting of the Board. A True Record: Attest:- Samuel H. Davis SECRETARY.
