HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-08-29 Board of Survey Minutes August 29, 1960 . Regular meeting of the Board of Survey opened at 7:55 P.M. in Room 14, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Florence, Secretary Harrison, Board Members Leonard, Ames and Hodson and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Florence read letter from Mrs. Betty Ericson of Tennyson Road advising the Board that the name "Browning Terrace" had been selected to replace Poe Circle. Mr. Hodson moved, Mr. Ames seconded and it was voted that hereafter Poe Circle would be officially called "Browning Terrace". Preliminary Hearing was held at 5:00 P.M. regarding the acceptance of lines and grades of Bolton Street Extension rohich runs from the accepted portion of Bolton Street in an Easterly • direction, a distance of 269.60 feet more or less to a dead end. Present were Arthur Aldrich, Attorney , Mr. Wing, Mr. Jay and associates. According to Mr. Wing and his associates, no Board of Survey Approval is necessary. Mr. Welch assured the inter- ested parties that a Board of Survey Approval is necessary. Ac- cording to the Superintendent, no street exists there now. The Approval is necessary to protect the prospective abutters and the Town. A detailed discussion followed at which time Mr. Welch outlined the requirements. Mr. Aldrich inquired if Mr. Welch were not quoting from the Subdivision Control Act and if Bolton Street came under the Subdivision Control Law. Mr. Leonard made a motion that the petition be laid on the table temporarily until after the next Hearing. It was © seconded and so voted. Preliminary Hearing was held at 8:30 P.M. regarding the lines and grades of Tennyson Circle which runs from Tennyson Road in a Westerly and Southerly direction, a distance of 300.00 feet more or less to a dead end . Present was Mr. Edward Small. Ac- cording to Mr. Welch this land was laid out as a street 18 or 20 years ago. Mr. Small has just built up the lines and grades. The plan did not show information which was necessary, such as con- tours, drainage, etc. This information will be available for the final Hearing. Action on the Bolton Street Plan was taken under advise- ment with the understanding that the situation will be examined and decision will be rendered at the next meeting. Action on the Tennyson Circle Hearing was taken under advisement pending receipt of further information. • The Chairman read letter from Town Counsel, Mr. Killam, in reference to two proposed lots of land off John Street owned by Mr. Walter Fowler of Reading which, according to Mr. Welch, did not meet the provisions of the Development Act. Mr. Fowler has not placed this matter before the Board; therefore, it does not require any official action as yet. Mr. Leonard made a motion that the Superintendent make an appointment with the Board of Survey to actually field survey this section under dispute to provide them with adequate information to render the proper decision. It was seconded and voted to make the survey on September 12 at 7:00 P.M. It was also agreed to visit the Bolton Street area on the same evening. • The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
