Meeting of the Board of Survey convened in Room 16, Municipal
Building at 9: 25 P.M.
Present were Chairman Cowell , Secretary Wood, Board Members
DeHart, Fallon and Barker and Superintendent E. Roger Louanis and
Assistant Superintendent Bergeron.
The Board continued their review of the Board of Survey Rules
and Regulations.
Item 15 - Section 5 H 1 Page 18 add "service laterals" after
the word pipes in the first line. . additional last sentence -
"The water main must pass a specific pressure test and be
chlorinated by a certified company acceptable to the Town prior to
turning the main into the system". Moved, .seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 16 - Section 5 H 2a Page 18 add "and shall include the
installation of the laterals to 5 feet beyond the back edge of the
sidewalk prior to the air testing". Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 17 Section 5 H 2e Page 19 Add. . . "Said permit shall be
in hand prior to connection to the existing sewer system. " Moved,
seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 18 - Section 5 M Page 20 Add. . "The Town will not plow
the paved sections of the roadways unless the castings are patched,
the street is paved, and there are residents living in the homes
and the Town has a waiver of Claims from plow Damage. Otherwise,
the Developer will be required to plow the area. ". Moved, seconded
and voted 5:0.
Item 19 - Section 6 Page 20 - change last part of sentence to
read 11 . .of the methods described in the following clauses (A) and
(B) , or any approved method allowed under the Laws of the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts for Subdivision Control as amended,
which method may be selected and from time to time varied by
the applicant. " Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 20 Section 7 A Page 21 - First paragraph - change
second line to "sixty days" in place of thirty days. - change
sixth line to 11. . . .applicant. Mail a copy of the notice to

Second paragraph - line change to read. . . . "The Board shall
arrange and the applicant shall pay . . . . ", Moved, seconded and

Item 21 Street Construction Specifications
A Roadways 1 . Page 28 - Add to first line. . . . "right-of-
way and side slopes". Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 22 A 2 Page 28 . . . .third line, add "and side slope" '
after sidewalk. Add to last line 2nd paragraph . . ."including
excavation for the stabilization of side sloping. " Moved,
seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 23 F Page 31 - Driveways - Driveways for residential
single family dwellings may be no wider than 24 feet at the
street line and may not enter over Stone Bounds or Catch
Basins. Moved, seconded and lost 0:5•
Item 24 A 3 Page 28 . . . .Third line change ten to "eleven".
Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 25 A 4 Page 29 - 7th line down change 6 to 114" - 8th
line down delete "highway". Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 26 B 2nd paragraph - Page 29 - Add "and the installation ,
of wheel chair ramps will be required in locations approved by

the Board". Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Chairman Cowell left the Board of Survey meeting at 10:20 and
returned at 10:27 P.M.
Item 27 B 2 Page 30 - Delete. . . . "which are securely anchored
and left in place" from the last line. Moved, seconded and voted
4:0.
Item 28 C 1 a Page 30 - Add". . . .Transition pieces will be
installed upon each side of the required wheel chair ramp with a
flat granite piece across the opening. " This change is included
in Item 34. Moved, seconded and voted 4:0.
Item 29 C 2 a Page 30 - Change second line to "3 inches" and
third line to "11 inches" Add to the third line ,and shall meet
the specifications of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for Type SB
curb." Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 30 C 2 c Page 30 - Change 2 to 5. Moved, seconded and
voted 5:0.
Item 31 Surface Water Drainage 2 Page 32 - First two lines
change to "Catch Basins shall have a three foot precast sump. All
catch basins will be precast and shall discharge into precast
manholes. Add to end of paragraph. "Special construction modifica-
tions requiring changes from the above will be approved only by the
Superintendent on an individual basis. The Standard Frame and Grate
shall be of the Cascade Type according to the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts Specifications, when the slope of the roadway is
' greater than 6%, and the Town of Reading Standard for lesser slopes".

Mrs. Wood moved that the Board go into Executive Session at
10:30 to reconvene as the Board of Survey and the Board was polled
as follows: '

The Board of Survey meeting reconvened at 10:45 PM.
Item 32 - 4 Page 32 - Second paragraph second sentence
add "or flared sections including". Moved, seconded and voted
5:0.
Item 33 - Page 27 E 1 - 1st line add the word "written"
after completed (written) report. Moved, seconded and voted 5:0.
Item 34 - Page 30 - The Board voted to revise the curbing ,
requirements to type V-4 vertical granite. The following is
the revised specifications for that change.
C Curbing
1 . All radius curbing shall be vertical granite and shall
be installed along the back gutter lines on both sides of the
street in accordance with the following specifications.
a. Curbing shall be type V-4 and shall have a cross-section
of at least 6 inches minimum width and thickness at the
top and for 8 inches down on the face and the minimum
bottom width of 4 inches. The curb depth shall be 17
inches to 19 inches. The length of the stone shall be
in conformance with the Standard Specifications for
Highways and Bridges of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts '
for Type VA4 granite curb.

b. Granite curb inlets shall conform to the Standard
Specification for Highways and Bridges of the Common-
wealth of Massachusetts. The ends shall be squared
with the depth of the face finish. The front face
shall be straight split, free from drill holes, and
it shall have no projection grater than 1 inch or
depression greater than 1/2 inch for a distance of 10
inches down from the top, and for the remaining
distance there shall be no depression or projection
greater than 1 inch.
The granite curb inlet shall be 6 feet in length, plus
or minus 1/2 inch, from 17 to 19 inches in depth, 6
inches wide at the top and at least 6 inches wide at
the bottom. Curb inlets set on a radius of 160 feet
or less shall be cut to the curve required.
A gutter mouth at least 3 inches in depth and at least 2
feet in length shall be cut in the front face of the
stone.
c. The granite for all driveway curb corners shall have
horizontal beds. They shall match the adjacent curbing
in size, color and quality. The front arris line shall
extend through 1/4 of a circle having a radius of 2 feet
for Type A Curb Corner. The back arris line shall be
straight. The plane of the back shall be normal to the
top.
d. Curbings shall be set on at least 6 inches of compacted
bank gravel and in accordance with the cross-section shown
in Figure 2. '
e. Transition pieces for wheel chair ramps will be required
on each side and a flat granite piece will be required
across the base of the ramp. The granite shall match the
adjacent curbing in size, color and quality.
