Meeting of the Board of Survey convened in Room 16, Munici-
pal Building at 7:35 P. M.
Present were Chairman Dustin, Secretary Price, Board Members
Russell , Cowell and Testa and Superintendent Louanis. The Finance
Committee was represented by Jose Canto and Gail Wood.
It was moved, seconded and voted to accept the minutes of the
previous meeting as written.
The Board reviewed the Engineering Divisions Work Progress
Report on Parkview Estates. (copy attached) . It is the considered
opinion of the Engineering Division that it is not possible for
the Developer to complete, in the three days remaining, the work
under bond. It was moved, seconded and voted to present the
following Motion under Article 7 at the Special Town Meeting on
October 5th if the work is not complete at 5:00 P. M. on that
date. "Moved: That the sum of Thirty Thousand ($30,000.00)
Dollars be transferred from the performance bond for Parkview
' Estates and appropriated for the purpose of completion of the
construction of a private way known as Francis Drive in accordance
with the terms of a certain performance bond executed by Main
Street Realty Trust to the benefit of the Town of Reading on the
21st day of November 1977 pursuant to the Massachusetts General
Laws Chapter 41 , such funds to be spent by and under the direction
of the Board of Public Works."
Meeting adjourned at 7:40 P. M. and reconvened at 8:45 P. M.
Read letter from Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sturm of 31 Melbourne
Avenue concerning the development known as Sunnyside Avenue Exten-
sion. Mr. Sturm' s property abuts a portion of the land in the devel-
opment and he is concerned that he may experience additional ground
and surface water problems should any filling be allowed adjacent
to his property. It was moved, seconded and voted to direct the
Superintendent to write Mr. Sturm thanking him for his letter and
advising him that his problem will be taken into consideration be-
fore any final approval is given on the Sunnyside Avenue Extension
and that the Board will keep him informed of anything that comes
up on this by means of Legal Notice.
The Board met with Attorney 0. Bradley Latham and Peter Ogren
of Hayes Engineering to discuss the development known as Eastway
Extension and Granger Avenue Extension. Mr. Ogren reviewed the
list of deficiencies and modifications to the proposed plan indica-
ting that all but four were resolved. The remaining four, as
follows: #3. Not yet complete and will provide profile on all
drains and easements in the subdivision. #9. Cellar floor eleva-
tions not as yet set as #3 is not complete at this time. #13. No
specific details on structural design of proposed wall and culvert
has been presented at this time but will be forthcoming and stamped
by a structural engineer. #15. The design for the proper protec-
tion for the existing sewer main at the box culvert will be submitted
with the structural details for the box culvert. Mr. Price moved,
and it was seconded and voted to table action on this until October
5, 1978.

Sept. 11 , 1978 Monday 1 . Hydrants were excavated.
2. Some C.B. were cut out.
Sept. 12, 1978 Tuesday 1 . 1st hydrant was moved away from dirve—
way and adjusted to grade.
2. Double catch basins were excavated and
the blocks installed to adjust to grade.
3. One throat stone was set.
Sept. 13, 1978 Wednesday No work done
Sept. 14, 1978 Thursday 1 . Poured concrete around adjusted drain
structures.
2. 2nd hydrant still excavated hole about
4 ft. deep, only protection is dirt
around it.
3. Stairs were moved off side walk area.
.Sept. 15, 1978 Friday 1 . Roadway paving came in late and patched
a few back edge of driveways where
the sidewalks meet the property line.
Sept. 18, 1978 Monday No work done. I called Mr. Sullivan —
No response.
Sept. 19, 1978 Tuesday Roadway paving came in late and patched
a few driveways.
Wrote letter requesting a construction
schedule and to set up a meeting also
lists of all things that need to be done.
The Tree Warden indicated that Mr.
Sullivan has not requested any information
from him. ".
SEPT. 20 — 22 As of Friday the road was left with
excavated materials in the street, a
large hole at the hydrant where the wort:
was supposed to be done.
Sept. 25 Monday No work done
Sept. 26 Tuesday 1 . One man with a backhoe was in most of
the day cleaning up sidewalk areas and
filling around the adjusted structures.
2. Hydrant was backfilled but not repaired

Sullivan on the site.
Sept. 27 - Oct. 2 No work done.
Oct. 3 to Oct 5 inc. No work done.
