Topics of Discussion:
The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm.
1. Minutes from the meeting on May 22, 2019 were reviewed and approved.
2. Friends and Family Day - June 15
We had good traffic at the booth, lots of support. We raised $150 from the "Buy a
Board" and "Trails Guides"fundraisers.
Suggestions for next time: we should get shirts (and/or hats), a banner, ropes
and/or anchors for the tri-fold display.
3. Notice of Intent Update
The hearing from Conservation was closed. The Order of Conditions (OOC) has been
signed. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) had concerns about the
sewer easement. Chuck added different Wetlands Protection Act (WPA) citing in the
DOC to address DEP concerns. Andy suggested that Chuck call the DEP to follow up.
Kim and Chris (assistant DPW head) met at Hunt Street to determine the best
placement for the kiosk to let abutters know what is going on.
4. Work Days
Page 1 1
We discussed waiting for full approval of Aberjona Trail project before setting work
days. But the committee decided to tentatively set Sat. July 13 as a work day.
Depending on how many volunteers there are, we can carry the LVLs to the river,
start clearing trail from Hunt Street, and possibly put down bark mulch from the
Willow Street side of the existing trail.
Andy offered to help with volunteer solicitation.
Other projects: Ben suggested getting Council on Aging involved with trails. (Flat
trails that are ADA accessible.) Chuck would like to see accessible trails at both ends
of town.
5. Committee Chair
The participating members decided to continue with Tom Gardiner as chair.
6. New Business
• Alligator Alley - 160 feet of boardwalk needs to be replaced (approximate
cost $9,000)
o Where to get money - can we use funds ear-marked for other
projects?
• Get more Trail Guides printed
• Chainsaw for tree across red trail in Bare Meadow
• DPW did erosion control at Sturges Park - possible trail on berm - make loop
trail?
Next Meeting: Work Day Planning meeting on July 2 at 7:00pm (Town Hall)
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm.
