HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-04-24 Climate Advisory Committee Minutes Town of Reading g Meeting Minutes ti E C C t'v E u TOWN CLERK °� "°• READING, IM Board - Committee - Commission - Council: 2019 JUL - I $ 6 Climate Advisory Committee N 12: 39 Date: 2019-04-24 Time: 7:00 PM Building: Reading Town Hall Location: Lower Level Conference Room Address: 16 Lowell Street Purpose: Bi-monthly meeting Attendees: Members - Present: David Zeek, chair; Ray Porter, secretary; Laurie Ann Sylvia, member; Celeste Kracke, member; Gina Snyder, associate member; Jeff Everson, associate member; Denise McCarthy Members - Not Present: Gretchen Latowsky, member; Others Present: Andy Friedmann, Ben Ream Minutes Respectfully submitted By: Ray Porter Topics of Discussion: Welcome to Members and Guests Review minutes, vote on acceptance Minutes for 4/10/2019 accepted as amended Ongoing Business: • Ideas for Arbor Day 2019 (Friday, April 26) • Denise confirmed a tree donation from Mahoney's is ready. • Gina talked with Mike of DPW would plant the tree. • Preferred approach would be to have the hole prepped at Barrows School. • Denise to talk with School Principal • October Glory Red Maple with a trunk size of 1.2 to 2 inches • Promote the event as an "after the fact" news story (RCN, papers, Facebook) • Red Bud trees to be distributed by Rotary Club to 50 graders • Flyer on value of trees to be distributed • Green New Deal Discussion • Discuss the outline for the Green New Deal informational event. • Need to promote the Sunrise Movement Tour, on Thursday, April 18. • Goal is to be informed and knowledgeable on the topic • Tuesday, May 14 (6 to 9, inclusive with the presentation being 7:00 to 8:30) • Preliminary PowerPoint by April 24, for review by committee • Advertising - Facebook post, PATCH, newspapers, RCN, Green Sense • Inform RMLD Board about this event. Laurie Ann to inform RMLD operations. - • Celeste to prepare a graphic and Flyer. Page I Town of Reading - Meeting Minutes • New Residents Open Mouse - Committee Involvement • Tuesday April 30 at 5:30 - 7:30pm, Reading Public Library • Request for table has been submitted. • Ask what their interests are, offer actions they can take. • Promote the Green New Deal at the table • Committee Membership • Two open member roles, possible one open associate member • Laurie Ann, ending 2019 and Gretchen, ending 2021 • Laurie Ann looking to find an RMLD representative • Possible RMLD employee could attend a meeting in a non-member status • No sunset provision, updated mission statement (as noted on the website) • Friends and Family Day • Need to discuss what events to have at the booth • Bicycle Recycling Event • Confirmed for May 3 - 4, 2019 • David passed the paperwork to Laurie-Ann for liability insurance.
