PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN WHITE, SECRETARY COCHRANE, BOARD MEMBERS FLORENCE, HODGKINS AND WATT, AND SUPERIN- TENDENT LOUANIS• MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED. THE BOARD REVIEWED THE 1970 SIDEWALK MAINTENANCE PROGRAM, AS FOLLOWS: ASH STREET 300' AT $5. 00 A FOOT. . . . . $1, 500, 00 MAIN STREET 200 ' AT $5. 00 A FOOT . . . . 1, 000. 00 WOBURN STREET 520 ' AT $5. 00 A FOOT . . . 2, 600, 00 HARNDEN STREET 300 ' AT $5. 00 A FOOT. . . 1. 500, 00 $6, 600. 00 ' THE LIST IS BASED UPON COMPLAINTS RECEIVED AND THE FACT THAT THEY ARE LOCATIONS OF HEAVY PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC, Ila. COCHRANE MOVED, Na. FLORENCE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED TO FOLLOW THE SUPERINTENDENTS RECOMMENDATION TO COMPLETE RE- BUILDING THE SIDEWALKS AS LISTED. Na. HODGKINS MOVED, MR. FLORENCE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO AUTHORIZE THE CHAIRMAN TO SIGN THE PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT AND PAYMENT REQUEST COVERING THE FINAL INSPECTION (WPC-MAss-163),. NORTHEAST INTERCEPTOR SEWER. READ NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT RECOMMENDING THAT THE DEPARTMENT APPROVE THE HIRING OF DUSTIN ASSOCIATES FOR THE INSPECTION OF SANITARY SEWER ON HAVERHILL STREET. MR. LOUANIS OUTLINED THE REASONS TO THE BOARD. MR.FLORENCE , MOVED, MR. COCHRANE SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED TO APPROVE THE HIRING OF DUSTIN ASSOCIATES. THE BOARD ADJOURNED TEMPORARILY AT 7:50 P.M. TO MEET AS THE BOARD OF SURVEY. THE BOARD RECONVENED AT 8:40 P.M. READ NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING BIDS ON COLD WATER METERS OPENED ON APRIL 16. DUE TO CERTAIN ALLEGED FAULTS IN CRANE METERS, BID BY MUNICIPAL SERVICES, INC. , LOW BIDDER, IT WAS MOVED, SECONDED AND VOTED TO AWARD THE CONTRACT TO ROCKWELL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, SECOND LOWEST BIDDER. ' READ REQUEST FROM MRS. RICHARD D. ARMSTRONG, SECRETARY, COUNCIL FOR GREATER BOSTON CAMP FIRE GIRLS, RE- QUESTING PERMISSION TO USE MEMORIAL PARK ON JUNE 16 FROM 7:00 TO 8:30 P.M. FOR THE ANNUAL GRAND COUNCIL FIRE CERE- MONIAL - RAIN DATE JUNE 18. MR. FLORENCE MOVED, MR. WATT SECONDED AND IT WAS VOTED THAT PERMISSION BE GRANTED AND THE CHAIRMAN BE IN- STRUCTED TO ATTEND THE CEREMONIAL. READ LETTER FROM NEIL H. HURRAY, CHAIRMAN, SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE, REQUESTING REAFFIRMATION OF WILLIAM H. WATT 'S APPOINTMENT BY THE BOARD TO SAID COMMITTEE. ' READ LETTER FROM EASTERN MIDDLESEX AREA CHAMBER ' OF COMMERCE IN WAKEFIELD REGARDING AN INFORMAL "CLOSED DOOR' MEETING IN AN EFFORT TO OBTAIN A CANDID APPRAISAL OF THE CURRENT SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL SITUATION IN THE AREA. THE MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 7:30 P.M. ON MAY 14. THE SUPERIN- TENDENT WILL ATTEND THE MEETING. READ NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT SUGGESTING THAT THE BOARD DISCUSS THE USE OF THE INCINERATOR WITH OTHER TOWNS IN AN ATTEMPT TO FORMULATE SOME BASIC PRINCIPLES FOR NEGOTIATIONS. THE BOARD DISCUSSED IN DETAIL A FIXED FEE PER TON ARRIVED AT SOLELY ON THE FACT THAT THE TOWN OF READING WILL HAVE A MONOPOLY IN THIS AREA FOR A SHORT TIME, ' AND THE CHARGE PER TON WORKED OUT ON A FORMULA BASIS.
