' MEETING OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OPENED AT
7:40 P.M. IN ROOM 16, MUNICIPAL BUILDING.
PRESENT WERE CHAIRMAN WHITE, BOARD MEMBERS HODGKINS
AND WATT AND SUPERINTENDENT LOUANIS.
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING READ AND APPROVED.
READ PETITION SIGNED BY 21 RESIDENTS OF ELM
STREET REQUESTING THE INSTALLATION OF DRAINS ON SAID STREET.
ACCORDING TO THE SUPERINTENDENT, RECENTLY HOUSES WERE BUILT
ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE STREET RESULTING IN WATER PONDING
IN THE STREET. THE WATER USED TO RUN OFF ONTO PRIVATE
PROPERTY. MR. LOUANIS WAS OF THE OPINION THAT REGRADING OF
' THE STREET WOULD RESULT IN ELIMINATING SOME OF THE PUDDLES
BUT A SURVEY IS NEEDED TO DETERMINE WHAT DRAINAGE IS
NECESSARY. A. HODGKINS MOVED, MR. WATT SECONDED AND IT WAS
VOTED UNANIMOUSLY THAT THE REQUEST WOULD BE PLACED ON THE
LIST OF DRAINAGE PROBLEMS AND THE ABUTTORS NOTIFIED OF THE
BOARD 'S ACTION.
IT WAS MOVED, SECONDED AND VOTED THAT A NOTICE
WHICH WAS SENT TO HOMEOWNERS WITH SEWER HOUSE CONNECTIONS IN
1962 REGARDING THE REMOVAL OF THE CAP ON THE SEWER CLEANOUT
AND ALLOWING FLOODED CELLARS TO DRAIN INTO THE SEWERS BE RE-
DATED, SIGNED BY THE NEW BOARD AND INSERTED IN THE SEWER
RENTAL BILLS COVERING A ONE-YEAR PERIOD.
THE BOARD REVIEWED THE PROPOSED 1970 SIDEWALK
AND CURBING CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM. IT WAS MOVED, SECONDED
AND VOTED TO APPROVE THE NEW CONSTRUCTION AS FOLLOWS:
HAVERHILL STREET (TIMBERNECK TO #114) _ $11, 000. 00
LONGFELLOW LOAD (WESTON TO OAKLAND) 3, 500. 00
BY APPLICATION 5. 500. 00
$20, 000. 00
REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $6, 600. 00 WILL BE
CONSIDERED AT THE NEXT MEETING.
THE BOARD OPENED BIDS AT 8:00 P.M. FOR SANITARY
SEWER CONSTRUCTION AS FOLLOWS:

THE BIDS WERE TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT.
THE BOARD REVIEWED RESUME' OF BIDS ON VARIOUS
MATERIALS. MR. HODGKINS MOVED, MR. WATT SECONDED AND IT
WAS VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO ACCEPT THE BIDS AS PRESENTED WITH
THE EXCEPTION OF CAST IRON PIPE AND REINFORCED CONCRETE
PIPE. THEY WILL BE PURCHASED FROM )}IAHMOON INDUSTRIES AND
NEW ENGLAND CONCRETE PIPE CORPORATION RESPECTIVELY.
MR. HODGKINS MOVED, MR. WATT SECONDED AND IT WAS t
VOTED TO APPROVE A PETITION FOR THE RELOCATION OF A NEW
ENGLAND TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH COMPANY-TOWN OF READING
' MUNICIPAL LIGHT POLE AS FOLLOWS:
CROSS STREET: SOUTHEASTERLY SIDE, RELOCATE
POLE 15 11 APPROXIMATELY EIGHT (8) FEET
NORTHEASTERLY
NO HEARING WAS NECESSARY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE POLE WILL
BE LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE LOT ON WHICH THE ORIGINAL PER-
MISSION WAS GRANTED.
THE BOARD ADJOURNED TEMPORARILY AT 8:25 P.M.
TO MEET AS THE BOARD OF SURVEY.
THE BOARD RECONVENED AT 9:15 P.M.
IT WAS AGREED THAT THE READING DEPARTMENT OF
' PUBLIC WORKS WOULD DONATE ONE TRUCK FOR "LET 'S CLEAN UP
READING " ON APRIL 25.
READ NOTICE OF MEETING OF ALL TOWN BOARDS TO BE
HELD AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER ON MONDAY, MAY 11, AT 8:00
P.M. ITEMS FOR THE AGENDA MUST. BE SUBMITTED BEFORE MAY 1
AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE SUBJECT OF PARKING METERS
BE INCLUDED.
READ LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN ENCLOSING
COPY OF LETTER FROM CHARLES E. BAMBERG, 20 DUNBAR ROAD, RE-
GARDING POSSIBLE ACQUISITION OF TWO PLOTS OF LAND OWNED BY
THE TOWN, ON RURLBURT STREET BETWEEN DUNBAR ROAD AND FOREST
STREET, KNOWN AS LOTS 28 AND 27 ON PLAT 137 OF TOWN RECORDS.
MR. BAMBERG WISHES TO ACQUIRE THE SWAMP LAND TO ENLARGE A
SKATING RINK WHICH HE HAS MAINTAINED IN HIS YARD FOR THE
CHILDREN OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE ITEM WAS TAKEN UNDER
ADVISEMENT.
MR. WHITE INFORMED THE BOARD THAT THE TOWN OF
WAKEFIELD BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND INCINERATOR COMMITTEE
HAVE BEEN INVITED TO CONFER WITH THE READING BOARD OF
PUBLIC WORKS ON MONDAY, APRIL 27, AT 8:30 P.M. THE BOARD
WISHES TO BRING WAKEFIELD UP TO DATE ON ITS PROGRESS
TOWARD BUILDING ITS INCINERATOR AND DISCUSS SOME OF THE
DETAILS PERTAINING THERETO.
