HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-01-17 Board of Public Works Minutesr January 17, 1972 ' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7 :30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman White, Secretary Florence, Board Members Cochrane, Hodgkins and Watt and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Read note from the Superintendent regarding the follow- ing abatements and his recommendation that they be approved: Sewer House Connection Assessment Abatement Roy B. Patterson $466.40 $466.40 205 Pearl Street Sewer Frontage - Joseph A. Concannon 654.84 156.36 6 Tamarack Road George A. Haskins 462.84 80.00 402 Lowell Street ' Norman S. Bickell 502.84 140.00 396 Lowell Street Mr . Cochrane moved, Mr . Florence seconded and it was voted to ap- prove the above listed abatements. The Board reviewed letter from Fantoni Co. , Inc. and note from the Superintendent regarding additional payment for bituminous concrete used on the final pavement of Haverhill Street after completion of the sewer construction. Mr. Watt moved that the Superintendent be authorized to pay Fantoni Co. , Inc. the sum of $4, 160.33 with the understanding that this will be the final payment on the job, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted. The Board conferred with Philip R . White, Jr . , Chairman, ' and Nathalie C . Beaton, Member of the Housing Authority regarding various access routes from the Housing Authority on Frank D. Tanner Drive to lower Haven Street. The following routes were discussed: 1 . Up Hancock Street to Mineral Street Bridge, down Vine ' Street to High Street. 2. Walkway across the tracks to Vine Street to opposite Middlesex Avenue. 3. To go from the Housing Authority southerly across land owned by the Town abutting the Junior High Football field and obtain an easement across the property where the new apartment houses are being erected on to Washington Street. 4. Along Hancock to King Street through the Junior High land to Temple Street to Woburn Street and down town. ' Mr . Philip White was of the opinion that the walkway was worth pursuing. He will contact the Boston & Maine Railroad Corpora- tion on the matter . The Superintendent felt that a survey should be made of the project. The Board discussed briefly Articles to be inserted in the Town Warrant. The Board discussed trash collection from the schools. Mr . Louanis informed the Board that very few problems had emerged. Also, he is carrying 15% overtime in the budget for pickup from the schools. The Board signed the Payroll for the period January 10 through January 16, and Billroll dated January 21 , 1972.
