HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-11-15 Board of Public Works Minutes November 15, 1971 ' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman White, Secretary Florence, Board Members Cochrane and Hodgkins and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Read letter from Mystic Valley Gas Company regarding resurfacing of Walnut Street where a 10-inch high pressure main has been installed. It was accepted as a point of information. Read petition signed by 14 persons requesting that the access road from Woburn Street to Municipal Parking Lot on Brande Court be closed to through vehicular traffic and create instead a ' safe pedestrian throughway. According to Robert L. Clattenburg, 78 Woburn Street, it is an ideal route for pedestrian access to the shopping area but relatively fast moving traffic creates a highly hazardous condition. Also, the neighborhood children play in the alley and the fast moving traffic is a constant menace. According to the Superintendent, this entrance has been in existence since 1952. To close it would create a greater traf- fic problem in the surrounding area because Linden Street and Chute Street are one-way in a northerly direction. Mr . Louanis recommended that the property-owners of 78 Woburn Street erect a fence on their own property at their own expense to protect the ' children. Mr. Cochrane moved, Mr . Florence seconded and it was voted to follow the Superintendent's recommendation. Mr. Watt joined the meeting. , The Board discussed the opening of the Dump on Satur- days. It was voted to open the Dump on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon until fur- ther notice. The Board adjourned temporarily at 7: 55 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey. The Board reconvened at 8:30 P.M. Reviewed Budget Sheets 11 , 11a, 11b, 15 through 18. No action was taken. The Board signed the following: Billroll dated November 19 Payroll for the period November 8 through November 14 ' Chain Link Fence Contract 71-6 - Everett Fence Co. Meeting adjourned at 9: 15 P.M.
