' Members of the Board and Superintendent Louanis met at
7:00 P.M. at 100 Acres to tour the Water Department land.
The Board convened in Room 16, Municipal Building, at
7: 30 P.M. Present were Chairman White, Secretary Florence, Board
Members Cochrane, Hodgkins and Watt and Superintendent Louanis.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Read letter from Mrs. Janet Pierce, Executive Director,
Reading Housing Authority, regarding rubbish pickup at the Housing
for the Elderly Project on Frank D. Tanner Drive. Mr. Watt sug-
gested Mrs. Pierce be notified that the Department is sympa-
thetic with the problem but no facilities are available. The
Project will be treated as an apartment house and must make its
own arrangements for rubbish collection.
Read letter from Robert S. Nelson, 179 Walnut Street,
regarding a problem affecting the residents of Walnut Street in the
vicinity of Sturges Park. It was agreed that the Superintendent
would write Mr . Nelson a letter explaining the Department 's plans
for the drainage ditch.
The Board discussed the 1971 Sidewalk Construction and
Maintenance Program. Mr. Florence moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded
and it was voted to proceed with the program as outlined by the
Superintendent.
The Board adjourned temporarily at 7:50 P.M. to meet as
the Board of Survey.
' The Board reconvened at 9:00 P.M. in Room 16.
The Board reviewed the three lowest sewer bids as follows:
Pitt Const. Corp. , Acton $357,930.20
T.D.Sullivan & Sons Co. ,Newton Highlands 393,872.00
Joseph Capone & Son, Inc. - Susi & 394,451 .00
Dimascio Co. , Inc.
The Board took no action.
Read letter from Combustion Engineering, Inc. regard-
ing article on the Incinerator which is to be published. Mr.
Watt was of the opinion that there was nothing wrong with the
article. Mr. White will edit the article.
After reviewing all the conditions at 100 Acres, it
was moved, seconded and voted that the gravel roads to the right
and left of Strout Avenue be blocked by boulders and the area
posted to exclude unauthorized vehicular traffic from Water De-
partment lands. '
The Board signed the Billroll dated April 30, 1971
and Payroll for the period April 19 through April 25, 1971 .
Meeting adjourned at 9:20 P .M.
