' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 30 P.M.
in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman White, Secretary Cochrane, Board
Members Florence and Hodgkins and Superintendent Louanis.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr . White gave a resume ' of the meeting with the Finance
Committee on January 22. The Board considered proposed reductions
in the budget. Mr. Florence moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it
was voted to reduce the budget by $32,500 as shown on the amended
budget sheets:
Chain Link fence $5,000
Sidewalk construction 2,000
Birch Meadow Development 2, 500
Road Machinery Operating Account 10,000
(Not to be raised from Tax Levy) 8,000
Road reconstruction 5,000

Town Counsel joined the meeting. It was moved, seconded
and voted to go into Executive Session to discuss the Road Ma-
chinery Operating Account and the Road Machinery Fund.
Action on the Road Machinery Operating Account and Road
Machinery Fund will be delayed pending receipt of a ruling from
Town Counsel .
The meeting continued in open session.
Read note from the Superintendent regarding the "No
Salt" Program; also the possibility of inserting an Article in the
Annual Town Meeting Warrant for the establishing of a By-law pro-
hibiting the use of salt on Reading 's highways. Mr. Louanis was
of the opinion that the item needed study and investigation before
an intelligent decision could be reached. Mr . Florence moved,
Mr . Cochrane seconded and it was voted that the Superintendent
pursue the questions as outlined and investigate the situation
further .
Read canvass of bids for Construction of Sludge Col-
lection Facilities, etc. as follows:
