Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P .M.
in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Blood, Secretary White, Board Mem-
bers Reed and Dustin and Superintendent Louanis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted with correc-
tion.
Read note from the Superintendent regarding sewer frontage
assessment on four lots owned by Ruth L. Packer. It was moved,
seconded and voted to abate the $854.08 assessed against Lots 24,
25, 26 and 27 as previously agreed by the Board on April 19, 1973.
Permission to install a fence on the Town of Reading Ease-
ment at 10 Intervale Terrace was requested by letter from Vincent
C. Fantasia to the Board. The matter was discussed at length and
the Superintendent was instructed to write Mr . Fantasia stating
that permission from the Board to erect a fence is not necessary
but the Town has the right of access upon the easement for main-
tenance and reconstruction of the sewer and drainage systems .
As requested, the Superintendent reported to the Board on
the possibility of plowing the sidewalk area on the west side of
Grove Street between Forest and Franklin Streets. The several
obstacles to be encountered by a plow were noted and the Super-
intendent was instructed to locate a more reasonable route.
However, an attempt will be made to plow the sidewalk area from
Forest Street northerly on Grove as far as house #176.
A meeting with the study unit of the League of Women Voters
was scheduled at 8:00 P .M. Mrs . M. J. Guerra, representative of
the League, posed several questions relative to the functions of
the Board of Survey. The Board was most liberal with their time
and knowledge of procedure and Mrs . Guerra departed armed with
considerable information to share with her constituents .
The Board reviewed and approved the Superintendent ' s Report
' to the Board of Public Works for the Annual Report. The report
of the Board of Public Works to the Citizens of Reading was also
approved with additions .
The Superintendent indicated, using a map of the Town, the
many snow plow routes; 91 miles of streets and 55 miles of
sidewalks. He explained at length the procedure followed from ,
the time the storm warning is received until the streets are
cleared. At the conclusion of a rather lengthy discussion it
was felt that snow removal is a difficult chore requiring a
great deal of thought, planning and physical energy and is a
task here in Reading that can be considered well done.
The Board signed the Payroll for the period ending January
20th and the Bill Roll dated January 25th.
Meeting adjourned at 10:40 P.M. -
Respectfully submitted,
C, IG°
Secretary
