Present: Chairman Blood, Board Members Reed, Dustin, Assistant Superintendent John Tormey and Town Engineer Henry Weston. Purpose of the meeting was fcr Whitman & Howard to present to the Board their findings on the architural and structural repairs to the Town Garage, with facts and figures to substantiate their recommend- ations. Messrs. James Walker and Tony Cavolotti , representing Whitman & Howard submitted the following: A sketch outlining what they plan to do, including removing the 4th beam. An immediate response from Mr. Blood and Mrs ,Reed indicated that they (W & W) will have to be ready to back up this with facts and test results. Redecking of roof: Metal - $6 ,500.00; Wood - $9,000.00. ' The Board felt that the metal redecking would be more in line, con- sidering the cost, and the fact that the other portion of the roof is metal . There was discussion on several types of material for personnel room. Block wall seemed the most favorable. Lighting: Fluorescent seemed first choice as against incandescent and mercury for the fire area. It was mutually felt that the entire garage should be done, with an eye to providing better lighting in the bays and repair areas. W & H were requested to come up with an estimate of how much more it would cost to do a complete job. Heating: Replace one unit and repair two. The Board requested W & H to obtain an estimate of cost to heat the garage with gas heaters as compared with the cost of heating with oil heaters, using an average of the past three years. ' Cleaning and painting: Again not included with W&H ' s price, but this can be done by the Town work forces during the winter months, and paid for by insurance monies. Mr. Blood suggested that W b H have a final set of plans and estimates ready for August 13th so that the Board can vote on them. This date is necessary to enable B.P.W. to prepare bids and set up a special Town Meeting by which to obtain funds appropriated for ' the project. The Board moved, seconded and voted that the Superintendent be j authorized to enter into agreement with W & H in the preparing of plans and specifications so that the work can be put out for bids as soon as possible. JOHN TORMEY - Ass ' t. Supt. Respectfully submitted Secretary 1 MEMORANDUM July 9, 1973 1 :30 P.M. E. Roger Louanis SPECIAL MEETING RELATIVE TO GARAGE FIRE . Place: Town Garage Present: Representing Board of Public Works: Ass 't.Supt. , John Tormey, and Town Engineer Henry Weston. Representing General Adjustment Bureau, Mr. Jos. Walsh, Mr. K. Gall , Mr. P. Joyce. Also present: Mr. Burke of the Burke Corp. , and Mr. Emmett Logue, Logue Construction Co. , both consulting engineers. Purpose: A meeting of the minds on matters of items to be dis- cussed. Mr. Logue has planned on doing more work. He took item by item, starting with the steel , and came up with a total steel cost of $7,660.00. Steel and demolition - $9,025.00. Labor to erect - $3,080.00 (Mr. Burke had a cost of $8$85.00, Sq.'ft. of roof: Mr. Logue - :4,714 ft. Mr. Burke - 4, 114 ft. Settled on 12,264 board ft. or 13,000. Complete roof cost - $6,760.00 with wood. They talked of 65C ft. tar and gravel . Mechanic Shop: Settled on $250.00 for cleaning. One reason, in my opinion, for so much difference in cost, Mr . Burke figured on a man hour ;, to do the job; Mr. Logue, on a unit cost. Cleaning and painting: Mr. Burke - $9, 272.00. Mr. Logue - $19,000.00. This is an item where each man brings in a qualified painter, and each to get a cost. This is to be discussed at next meeting which _ is tentatively set for July 20th. There is nothing on the Park Dept. Shop or 8-10, They have $887.00 painting, cleaning offices (Burke?) John Tormey
