HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-06-11 Board of Public Works Minutes MINUTES June 11 , 1973 ' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 35 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present: Chairman Blood, Secretary White, Board Members Reed, Russell , Dustin, and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of the previous meeting were read, amended, and approved. Billroll was signed dated June 15, 1973; Payroll was signed for the period ending June 10, 1973• 7:45 P.M. Secretary White read notice of public hearing relative to New England Tel . & Tel . Co's (represented by Mr . Cooley) petition to build a manhole in Woburn St. Hearing was formally closed at 8:00 P.M. , and the Board moved, seconded and voted to grant permission I{ as requested. 8:00 P.M. Notice was read of public hearing regarding connecting private property drains with the public drain in West Street. Five abuttors were present and signed releases holding the Town harmless ' in the event the drainage work to be done by the department fails , and granting the Town permission to enter onto their properties to do the work. Hearing was formally closed at 8:25 P.M. Read letter from the Town Council regarding fire insurance. Accepted as a point of information. The Superintendent reported facts and figures as presented by Logue Construction Co. relative to the estimate of work and reconstruction needed on the town garage after the fire. The Board requested the Superintendent to set up a meeting sometime this week with the insurance agent, Robert Brown, of Lewis, Clarke and Brown and members of the Board in order to arrive at some definite idea of what to expect from the insurance company. Read letter from Board of Selectmen requesting the Board 's interest in land on Auburn Street. It was moved,seconded and voted that they be informed that the Board has no interest in the property. The Superintendent gave a verbal report of progress at the treatment ' plant, with the 'opinion that the work in question should be completed by the end of this week. Accepted as a point of information. Read letter from James Klepis of the Tennyson Club requesting per- mission to occupy Tennyson Road for their annual cook-out, Saturday, June 16 (rain date June 23, 1973) from 1 :00 P.M. to 11 :00 P .M. It was moved, seconded and voted to grant permission subject to the following: a. that no liquor be served within the limits of the public way; and b) that the area must be policed and clean, after , the event is over . j 1 The Board adjourned temporarily to meet as the Board of Survey at 9: 15 P.M. and reconvened at 9:35 P.M. a A report was made to the Board on the June 6, 1973 meeting of the 1 Personnel Study Committee (Mssrs. Blood, Russell , Dustin & Louanis) . Lack of depth and back-up for the town engineer seems of prime concern. It was moved, seconded and voted that the Finance Committee be advised of the Board 's intention to hire an assistant town engineer, ' and that the Superintendent prepare data to justify the need for such a position, indicating that appropriate adjustments will be made in the proper accounts to cover his salary.
