HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-05-14 Board of Public Works Minutes MINUTES May 14, 1973 1 Meeting of the Board of Public Works convened at 7:30 P .M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present: Chairman Blood, Secretary White, Board Members, Reed, Russell , and Dustin, and Superintendent Louanis . Minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted. Billroll was signed dated May 18, 1973; payroll for the period ending May 13, 1973• 7:45 P.M. Read petition of Municipal Light Department to move pole 54/43A on Main Street 25 ft. southerly. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the move. Read petition from property owners on Kelch Road requesting street acceptance. It was moved, seconded and voted that a preliminary hearing be scheduled for the accepting of Kelch Road and the existing portion of Longwood Road not presently accepted. ' Read note from the Church of the Good Shepherd. It was moved, seconded, and \oted to allow the Church of the Good Shepherd to hold its annual picnic in Philip Welch Memorial Park in Birch Meadow June 17, 1973 from 11 :00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Use of the area will be subject to the usual rules and regulations of the Department. Read letter from the Conservation Commission regarding meeting on May 31 , 1973 at 8:00 P.M. with Robert M. Morehouse to discuss soil con- servation service. Accepted as a point of information. Read letter from the State Health Department regarding auxiliary power for the Town Forest Pumping Station. Accepted as a point of information. Read note from the Superintendent regarding a bid received May 4, 1973 for a new Self-propelled Heavy Duty 60" Turf Sweeper ; Sawtelle Bros . , Inc. in the amount of $2,465.25• It was moved, seconded and voted to award the contract to Sawtelle Bros. , Inc. for the purchase of one new ' Self-Propelled Heavy Duty 60" Turf Sweeper in the amount of $2,465.25• Read note from the Superintenderttregarding bid received on April 19, 1973 from Carlson Tire Co. , Inc. It was moved, seconded and voted to check this bid againstthe state bid before making any award. Read note from the Superintendent relative to Project Requests for Chapter 616 and Chapter 679 funds to be used for the reconstruction of Willow Street from Lowell Street to the B & M Railroad tracks. It he ' was moved, seconded and voted to authorize the Chairman to sign t , request forms. Read letter from Mr. Thomas C . McMahon of Commonwealth of Massachusetts Water Resources Commission - Division of Water Pollution Control . A discussion ensued re: the problem of the Willow Street Pumping Station and the effect on the progress of sewer installations and sewer house connections in the area serviced by this station. It was agreed that the Superintendent write to Mr. McMahon as outlined in the attached letter . The Board adjourned temporarily to meet as the Board of Survey at 8: 30 P.M. , and reconvened at 9: 30 P.M. Discussion relative to dump area being open three seasons of the year with regard to yard rakings, trimmings, etc. The Superintendent was requested to check into the facts, and report back to the Board at a later date.
