Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 55 P.M.
' in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman White, Secretary° Watt, Board Members
Blood, Reed, and Superintendent Louanis.
Preliminary Public Hearing was held at 8:00 P.M. regarding
Criterion Street Acceptance. There were 10 abutters present;
the vote: 2 in favor; 7 No; and 1 non-commitel . Mr. Blood moved
and Mr. Reed seconded; it was voted that no further action be
taken on the acceptance of Criterion Street as a public way.
Mr. White read a letter from William F. Cass, Director,
Metropolitan Boston Air Pollution Control District, regarding
rules, regulations and compliance with the above Department,
and a letter from Mr. Louanis to Mr. Cass, dated October 4, 1972
was read, offering to meet with him to discuss necessary steps,
etc. required. No reply has been received. He will keep after
Walter Smith until some solution can be arrived at. The Board
feels it has done its part; the Director and his Department
' must do the rest.
The Board adjourned temporarily at 8:40 P.M. , and then met
as the Board of Survey. The Board reconvened at 8:50 P.M.
Read petition from Belmont Street residents, regarding
drainage problems, and met with residents of the area, repre-
sented by Dr. & Mrs. Guerra. A lengthy discussion ensued,
and it was agreed that the Town would check relative elevation
between the main drainage ditch and the water level on private
property. When further information is available the Superintendent
will contact Dr. Guerra.
Read note from Superintendent regarding bids on Cleaning,
Redeveloping & Backflushing Existing Gravel Wells. The following
bids were received:
D. L. Maher $ 9,666.00
Layne N. E. Co. 10, 170.00
Mr. Blood moved, Mr. Reed seconded that the contract be awarded
to the low bidder, D. L. Maher, subject to providing the proper '
performance bonds.
The Board reviewed the Budget for 1973-74, sheets 1-10.
It was agreed that the Superintendent would write a letter
to Rev. Coughlin of St. Agnes Church that we would program the
repairs for 1973.
Board signed Bill Roll for the period ending December 1st,
and the Payroll for the period from November 20th through
November 26, 1972.
