I Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in
Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Russell , Secretary Dustin, Board
Members Blood, Price and Botka and Superintendent Louanis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as amended.
The Superintendent reported he had contacted Mr. Joseph
Doherty regarding the proposed installation of underground con-
duit in Linden Street. Mr. Doherty is willing to work with the
Municipal Light Department on a day to day basis for the dura-
tion of the installation. It was moved, seconded and voted to
approve the Petition of the Municipal Light Department to install
conduit as outlined on Plans submitted at the Hearing held June
2, 1975•
Mr . Price brought up the problems of the new controls regu-
lating the sewer pumping contractors, pointing out the regulation
' excluding the dumping of sewerage into the Reading Sewer System
on Saturday and Sunday was a hardship to the contractors and
residents of the Town. It was agreed that the Reading based con-
tractor would be allowed to dump on Saturdays with the stipulation
that the callman be present at the time of dumping.
The Board reviewed bids for Brick and Cement, Brass Goods,
Copper Tubing, Curb Boxes and Sewer Pipe. It was moved, seconded
and voted to award contracts as follows: Clay Sewer Brick,
Portland Cement and Mortar Cement to Lynn Builders ' Supply Company:
Curb Cocks and Corporations to Eureka Cement Lined Pipe Company,
Inc. : Copper Tubing, Valve Boxes and Curb Boxes to Municipal
Services, Inc. : and lastly Asbestos Cement Pipe to T. E. Toomey
Company, Inc.
Read letter from Mrs. Norma Moseley requesting that Prescott
Street be closed on Sunday, June 15th during a wedding ceremony
' to take place at her residence. It was moved, seconded and voted
to close Prescott Street from West Street to Perkins Avenue from
2:30 to 4:00 P.M. on the 15th of June.
Read notice from the Board of Appeals regarding property
f owned by Jacqueline Godfrey. Mr. Louanis will attend the Hearing 3
on June 25th. ,
Read letter from the Conservation Commission requesting
that betterment charges be abated on land located on Charles
Street. Following a brief discussion it was moved, seconded and
voted that the matter be tabled until more specific information
is available.
Read Notice of Public Hearing regarding the proposed exten-
sion of the main trunk sanitary sewer in Twin Oaks Road. Nine
residents attended the Hearing and the Chairman explained the
procedure followed relative to the construction schedule and
1 the assessment of betterments. Following a brief discussion it

was moved, seconded and voted to close the Hearing.
Read letter from Doris H. Staniewicz requesting a chain
link fence be installed separating the park area on Franklin
jStreet from her property. It was moved, seconded and voted to
h instruct the Superintendent to inform Mrs. Staniewicz that funds ,
are not available at this time for the construction of a chain
link fence but consideration will be given to include fencing
of the Park in the future as the construction of the Park goes
forward.
Read letter from George E. Smith, Chairman of the Tennyson
Club requesting permission to block off and occupy Tennyson Road
from 1 :00 to 11 :00 P.M. on Saturday, June 21 , or in the event of
inclement weather on June 28th, in order that they may hold their
annual cookout. It was moved, seconded and voted to grant the
request subject to the standard regulations pertaining to alcoholic
beverages, liability insurance and condition of the street follow-
ing the event.
Read letter from the Board of Health requesting information
as to whether the sewer was available and adequate at the Batchel-
der property located off Franklin Street. It was agreed that the
Superintendent write the Health Department informing them that the

I sanitary sewer is available and adequate to handle the effluent
that will be discharged from the potential subdivision on the
property in question.
Read Petition from the residents of Hemlock Road and Pine
Ridge Road with regard to a cronic flooding problem in their
area. It was agreed to meet with the group at 9:00 P.M. on
June 30th.
Read letter from Mr. and Mrs. Bridge of 16 Lakeview Avenue
requesting the sanitary sewer be extended to accommodate their
residence. It was moved, seconded and voted to request investi-
gation by the Board of Health before acting on this matter.
Read report from Insurance Services Office re fire flow
tests . After a discussion of the potential weaknesses outlined
in the report of the Reading Water System the Superintendent was
instructed to prepare a report of the Water System needs and
submit it to the Board in the Fall .
A review of the vote taken at the sewer hearing held
e'a'rlier in the evening was as follows: of the five properties
represented, one did not cast a vote, the remaining four were
in favor of the extension of the main trunk sanitary sewer . It
was moved, seconded and voted to install the sanitary sewer in
Twin Oaks Road and to add it to the existing contract in an
effort to complete the work in the present construction season.
Read legal notice from the Conservation Commission announc-
ing a Hearing to be held on June 10th regarding the Sanitary
Sewer Construction on Pasture Road to Blueberry Lane which comes
under the provisions of the General Laws, Chapter 131 , Section 40.
Mr . Bergeron will attend the Hearing. The Board accepted the
matter as a point of information.
The Board reviewed an Act of legislation authorizing the
' transfer of the Forestry Department to the jurisdiction of the
Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading. Point of informa-
tion.
It was moved, seconded and voted to authorize no less than
one Member of the Board to sign the Pay Roll and Bill Roll dur-
ing the summer vacation period.
It was moved, seconded and voted to authorize the Chairman
of the Board to write to the Board of Selectmen requesting Town

Counsel to proceed with the filing of enabling legislation in
order that the Department may proceed with construction of the
proposed Willow Street Interceptor.
The Board signed the Order of Taking on the following
l streets: Countryside Lane, Barbara Lane Hemlock Road, Boyce
I
Street, Maple Ridge Road, Belmont Street Extension, C Street
and Fox Run Lane.
The Board also signed the Pay Roll for the period ending
I� June S and the Bill Roll dated June 13, 1975.
It was moved, seconded and voted to go into Executive
Session to discuss labor negotiations.
Meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
