Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened in Room 16, Muni-
cipal Building at 7:30 P.M.
Present were Chairman Blood, Secretary Reed, Board Members
Russell , Dustin and Price and Superintendent Louanis .
Minutes of the meeting of November 11th were accepted with
correction. Read Minutes of November 13th meeting which were a
synopsis of the discussion. It was moved, seconded and voted to
instruct the Hearing Reporter to rewrite the minutes in greater
detail .
Read Notice of Public Hearing relative to taking an easement
through private property at 45 Track Road for drainage and sewer-
age purposes. It was moved, seconded and voted to take the
easement and sign the Order of Taking.
Meeting adjourned temporarily to meet as the Board of Survey
at 8:00 P.M. at the Community Center, and reconvened in Room 16,
' Municipal Building at 9:45 P.M.
Read letter from Barbara L. Boucher relative to the safety
hazard now existing at the corner of Dana Road and Charles Street.
A general discussion ensued as to how to reduce the danger to
pedestrians and general traffic. The Superintendent was directed
to request the Chief-of-Police to place a "stop" sign on Dana Road
at the corner of Charles Street and to design an island for the
intersection in order to create an improved traffic pattern. It
was suggested that the owner of the property at the southwesterly
corner of the intersection be contacted in order that the loca-
tion of the fence which has been erected recently may be discussed.
Read letter from Barbara E. Sumner, Clerk for the Executive
Board of the First Church of Christ, Scientist thanking the De-
partment for repairing the damage done by plows last winter. It
was accepted as a point of information.
I The Superintendent reported to the Board that plans had been
developed for the proposed underground gasoline storage at the
Public Works Garage. This is part of the program for the Garage
Addition and Renovation approved at the Annual Town Meeting in
March. It was agreed that the Superintendent be authorized to '
proceed with the plans as outlined.
Due to the Planning Board 's scheduled hearing regarding
the extension of the M.B.T.A. on November 25th, the Board voted
to attend this meeting and schedule its next meeting on November
27th.
Read Petition from Benjamin Nichols and others, questioning
whether proper use is being made of Memorial Park. It was moved,
seconded and voted that the Superintendent be instructed to write
Town Counsel and request a written decision relative to the legal
and proper activities in Memorial Park in accordance with the
deed and conditions by which the Town accepted the Park.
There was a brief discussion relative to the imput from the
Special Park Hearing. The Superintendent was instructed to write
Town Counsel and request a written decision relative to the '
possibility of using so-called Batchelder Park for recreational
purposes.
The Board signed Weston and Sampson Contract 74-12 for
Engineering Services in connection with the Willow Street Inter-
ceptor Sewer.
The Board signed the Pay Roll for the period ending November
17th and the Bill Roll dated November 22d.
