HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-09-16 Board of Public Works Minutes September 16, 1974 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened in Room 16, Municipal Building at 7:30 P.M. Present were Chairman Blood, Secretary Reed, Board Mem- bers Russell , Dustin and Price and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as amended. Read letter from Mr. Nathan C. White of Raytheon Service Company. It was moved, seconded and voted that the Superin- tendent write to Raytheon Service Company advising them of our continued interest in their proposed incinerator residue re- finement processes and that we would be interested in meeting with them at some time mutually agreeable to both parties. Read Notice of Hearing from the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts relative to the open discussion of questions relating to Chapter 90 work on public roads to be held on October 21 , 1974 at 10:30 A.M. at the New Courthouse in Cambridge. The Board signed the Memorandum of Agreement between the Commonwealth of ' Massachusetts and the Town of Reading Board of Public Works. The Board met with Lynn Stasz, Jean Cary, Carolyn Dayton and Julie Constentino from RETURN at 8:00 P.M. Slides exhibiting the collection and disposition of rubbish were shown by Jean Cary. An open discussion ensued covering the present and future plans of the group. The bids for the Garage Addition were reviewed and it was moved, seconded and voted to award the Contract for Metal Building, Foundations and Appurtenant Work (Contract 74-8) to Fred DeLisio and Company, Inc. , the low bidder, in the amount of $129,800.00 subject to the revision as a result of the masonry quote, and subject further to their ability to post proper performance bonds. Bids for the Road Reconstruction program were reviewed, as follows: Bell and Flynn, Inc. $ 119,695.00 Bids were taken out by 0. Menici and Sons, inc. and J. F. Hayes Company but they did not elect to bid. It was moved, seconded and voted to award Contract 74-9 for Road Reconstruction to Bell and Flynn, Inc. for the proposed reconstruction of Wash- ington and Willow Streets for an estimated contract price not to exceed $85,000.00 on the same unit price as bid, subject to their ability to post proper performance bonds. Read Petition from residents of Harold Avenue relative to the poor water pressure in their homes due to the size of the water main in the street. It was accepted as a point of information and referred to the Superintendent to notify the residents of Harold Avenue as to when their water main re- placement will be scheduled. The Superintendent was instructed to prepare Articles for the Special Town Meeting covering Engineering Funds for the Interceptor Sewer to solve the Willow Street Pumping Station district problem and an Article for Leaf Collection. The Board signed the Pay Roll for the period ending September 15 and the Bill Roll dated September 20th. ' Meeting adjourned at 10:45 P.M. Respectfully submitted, 411cP Secretary l �
