Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened in Room 16,
i, Municipal Building at 7:30 P.M.
Present were Chairman Blood, Secretary Reed, Board Members
Russell , Dustin and Price and Superintendent Louanis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as corrected.
The Board adjourned temporarily at 7:45 P.M. to meet as the
Board of Survey and reconvened at 9:00 P.M.
Read letter from the County Commissioners relative to the
Annual Highway Hearing for Middlesex County. It was agreed that
a program for Chapter 90 Roads be prepared and the Board be repre-
sented at the meeting to be held at the County Commissioners ,
Hearing Room, New Superior Courthouse in East Cambridge on Octo-
ber 2, 1974 at 10:30 A.M.
Read .letter from Richard K. McCann, President of McCann
Steel Building Company, Inc. , relative to the inordinate delay
in completing the work at the Grolier Building. It was accepted
' as a point of information.
Read letter from anonymous source regarding waste of tax
dollars. Point of information.
The Board signed the Order for Sidewalk and Curbing Assess-
ments for various streets.
Read letter from the Massachusetts Department of Public
Works relative to updated State Aid Highway formula approved
by the Public Works Commission wherein Reading will receive
$30, 329.00 for the construction and/orimprovement of public
ways for the fiscal years of 1975, 1976 and 1977. These funds
are provided by authorization contained in Section 4 of Chapter
765 of the Acts of 1972 and can be used for construction and/or
improvement projects on all public ways which qualify under
Chapter 90 guidelines. Matching funds from the County and Town
are not mandatory. Accepted as a point of information.
' Read letter from New England River Basins Commission. It
was accepted as a point of information.
The Board reviewed the bids for the Sewer Ejector Station,
as follows: ,

It was moved, seconded and voted to award the bid to the low
bidder Coronis Concrete Company, Inc. , in the amount of $53,900.
subject to their ability to post performance bonds for the full
amount of the contract.
The Board reviewed the bids for the Garage Addition, as
follows:

A discussion ensued. It was agreed that the matter be tabled
until the next meeting. '
A special Town Meeting will be held on October 21 , 1974.
It was noted that all Articles must be submitted to the Execu-
tive Secretary by September 23d.
The Board signed the Pay Roll for the period ending
September 8, and the Bill Roll dated September 14, 1974.
The Board discussed the initial receipt of recycling
materials at the solid waste disposal area on Saturday, Septem-
ber 7 by Return. It was moved, seconded and voted that the Board
send a letter to Kenneth E. Hail , Sanitation Engineer and to
Dennis M. Treanor, Assistant Sanitation Engineer thanking the
men for the cooperation they gave to the group known as Return,
copy of the letter to go to the Reading Chronicle, the Other Side
and to the Personnel File.
