HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-07-01 Board of Public Works Minutes July 1 , 1974 Members of the Board of Public Works met with a group from R-E-T-U-R-N at the Public Works Yard on John Street at 7:30 P.M. Formal meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 5:00 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Blood, Secretary Reed, Board Members Dustin, Price and Russell and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. The Board signed notification in writing to the State Department of Public Works of the amount that will be incurred as the actual cost during the Fiscal Year 1975 for Section 14, Chapter 497, Acts of 1971 . Read Petition from Dorothy Alpedo and others regard- ing brown water in the area near Temple Street. It was moved, seconded and voted that the Superintendent write Mrs. Alpedo stating the Board has been aware of the problem for over four years and the sum of $400,000. had been appropriated to con- struct new wells and make improvements at the filter plant in order that better quality water could be supplied. It is an- ticipated this project will be complete in the very near future. Read letter from Mr. William McCauley, Jr. relative to salary. It was accepted as a point of information. The Board viewed the Plan by H. Kingman Abbott dated June 1974. It was moved, seconded and voted that permission be granted to Anthony E . Nigro et al to tie into the existing catch basin on Woburn Street adjacent to house number 36 as shown on the plan. The Superintendent gave a brief report on the progress at the Grolier Building off South Street. We are now prepared to accept the runoff of water from this property. The Board read the report titled "Microprobe Analysis of Spotted Sheets" pertinent to the water problem experienced by Mrs. Martins of Martin Road. It was moved, seconded and voted the Superintendent write Mrs. Martins indicating that the report from AMR Corporation stated the gray spots on her sheet were from ' copper and we can find no correlation between the presence of the copper and any impurities in the water. It was moved, seconded and voted that the Board sign the request form for a transfer from Reserve Fund in the amount of $4, 328.46 for the purpose of providing funds for Water Depart- ment salaries for the week ending June 30, 1974 to be paid July 5, 1974. Mr. Price volunteered to investigate volume purchase of 30 gallon wet strength paper sacks. The Board signed the Payroll for the. period ending June 30, 1974. .and the Bill Rolls dated June 30th and July 5, 1974. Meeting adjourned at 9:40 P.M. Res tfully submitted, Secretary 1 1 i
