HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-06-10 Board of Public Works Minutes June 10, 1974 ' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P .M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Blood, Secretary Reed, Board Mem- bers Dustin, Price and Russell and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read. The Board discussed the earlier request of the Conserva- tion Commission to construct a parking area off Pearl Street. It has been determined that the Board of Public Works may not construct a parking lot with Board of Public Works funds . How- ever, it was decided that the Board meet with the Chairman of the Conservation Commission in order that the matter may be investigated further. The Superintendent reported on the progress of drainage construction on South Street. Also read letter from Mr. Richard K. McCann relative to the construction schedule for drainage and parking lot at the Grolier Building. It appears that the Town ' s drainage system will be completed in time to accommodate the drainage from the Grolier Building. Read note from the Superintendent relative to Mr . Martins ' water problem. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the expenditure of Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars to have the spots on a sheet owned by Mrs. Martins ' analyzed. The Board adjourned temporarily at 8:00 P .M. to meet as the Board of Survey and reconvened at 10:00 P.M. Read letter from Mrs. Uttam of 408 Pearl Street regarding water main break. The Superintendent outlined the manner a telephone complaint is handled and it was determined that the information given to Mrs. Uttam was reasonable. The Superin- tendent was directed to write to Mrs. Uttam in an effort to ameliorate the existing relationship. The Board reviewed various bids. Holly, Inc. in the amount of $7, 182.00. Connors in regard l to Hopkins Street. It was agreed that Mr. Price would attend the meeting on Wednesday, June 12, 1974 with the Superintendent. Read letter from the Reading Health Department concerning j Deborah Drive. It was moved, seconded and voted that in accord- ance with our policy of not moving a street ahead on the list unless sanitary conditions have been proven to be a health II hazard Deborah Drive remain on the program for 1977• The Superintendent presented the program for sidewalk and curb construction for the 1974-75 year. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the sidewalk and curb construction program for the forthcoming fiscal year in the amount of $21 , 520.00. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the site t Plan - corner of Chute and High Street owned by James W. Bryant subject to the following conditions: 1 . Sidewalks be 8 ' wide, granite curb 5" x 18" on Chute and High Streets with 2 ' granite curb return installed at all driveways. r I
